Bye Bye Baby waved the opposition a fond farewell by running them into the ground with an all-the-way win in the Group 3 Plusvital Irish EBF Blue Wind Stakes at the Curragh on Saturday.
Seamie Heffernan put up 1lb overweight on the Aidan O’Brien-trained filly but it made no difference as she powered home in this 10-furlong contest.
The 11/4 winner pulled out more when challenged to score by two lengths from Dermot Weld's Jaega, the even-money favourite. Bye Bye Baby was slashed to 14/1 from 33/1 by one bookmaker for the Epsom Oaks.
O'Brien was completing a double on the day, having saddled the two-year-old colt Land Force (by No Nay Never) to win the opening six-furlong maiden.
GAME SPRINTER
Ardhoomey went one better than 12 months ago to claim the Listed Sole Power Stakes on the same card.
Ger Lyons’ six-year-old had chased home the speedy Acapulco that day but took the spoils this time after a terrific tussle with Gorane.
The eight runners split into two groups, with the far side always holding sway, before it developed into a two-horse affair.
Colin Keane showed why he is champion jockey as he drove Ardhoomey (7/1) to a head victory on his first outing for 204 days.
James Tate’s Newmarket raider Kyllang Rock was sent off the 6/4 favourite but never got into a challenging position and finished sixth.
Lyons said: “We love him. With him and Brendan Brackan in the yard you are in safe hands.
“Colin said he got tired at the end and he thought she (Gorane) was going to get back up and do him.
“He’s one of those old-age pensioners in the yard that does what it says on the tin. I’m delighted to have him.
“This winter we’ve said we wouldn’t mind having a go at seven (furlongs) at some stage. If his wind allows us, that’s what we’d like to do.
“It’s just fun with him. Whatever presents itself, and while he’s around and has a heartbeat, we’ll partake and have fun with him.”
Lyons and Keane teamed up again later on the afternoon to win the 10-furlong handicap with 3/1 favourite Inscribe.
