DBS will not hold a sale at Newbury Racecourse next Friday as planned.
The company issued a statement on Monday which said that “a combination of appalling weather, vendor feedback and recent soft trade for Irish point-to-pointers has resulted in a smaller pool of horses than would be desirable leading to the postponement of DBS sales at the Berkshire racecourse.”
DBS managing director Henry Beeby said: “Naturally we are disappointed not to be in a position to sell but we want to return to Newbury with a serious offering and that was not going to be the case next week.
STAGNANT
“The recent bad weather in Ireland coupled with a slightly stagnant market led us to speak to some of the key players and they all felt we’d be better to delay rather than go off half cock.
“We remain confident that Newbury can provide a vibrant and viable marketplace for top class NH prospects and, of course, it has recorded the highest price for this category in recent years when Un Temps Pour Tout realised £450,000 in November 2013, so we will review the situation with a view to returning in early 2016.”
DBS will stage its first Grand National Sale at Aintree in April next year.
