DAVID Casey will bring the curtain down on a hugely successful career as a jump jockey at Listowel on Wednesday.

The 39-year-old, who has a long association with the Willie Mullins stable, has won a string of major races in Ireland, Britain and France. He will remain with the Mullins yard and accompany the stable’s Melbourne Cup hope Max Dynamite to Australia in a week’s time.

Casey said: “I didn’t want to become a part-time jockey and this was a good opportunity for me to take. I have had my share of injuries over the years but I am lucky to be walking away from it feeling grand.”

Fadoudal Du Cochet gave Casey his first Cheltenham Festival win in 2002. Rule Supreme was his next in 2004 and he rode the same horse to win the French Champion Hurdle that year and the Hennessy at Leopardstown in 2011.

Casey had already won the French Champion Hurdle a year earlier on Nobody Told Me and Kempes gave the jockey a second Hennessy win in 2011.

A Galway Plate on Ansar, a Thyestes on Hedgehunter and a string of wins on novice chaser Sackville in 2000-’01 were other highlights for the Co Waterford man.
