A PROMINENT racing stables was visited by the Criminal Assets Bureau (CAB) this week as part of an ongoing investigation into a west Dublin criminal group.

Although the trainer is not under suspicion, CAB is understood to be particularly interested in the ownership of one top-class horse. One theory in circulation is that a share in the horse was syndicated by a legitimate owner among other individuals who are linked to crime.

CAB also made enquires with at least two racing administrative bodies this week, The Irish Field was informed. The horse was not seized and remains in training.

A statement issued by CAB said that searches were carried out at 12 locations in Dublin, Kildare and Meath in connection with this investigation.

“During today’s operation the Criminal Assets Bureau seized a large amounts of financial documentation and electronic media.

“A luxury car and a small quantity of controlled drugs (analysis pending) and drugs paraphernalia were also seized during the operation. The searches were conducted at private residences and business premises.

“The Criminal Assets Bureau was supported by the Special Crime Task Force (SCTF) and the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau (GNDOCB), the Dublin Regional Armed Response Unit and Gardaí from Clondalkin and Ronanstown Garda Districts.

“No arrests were made during this phase of the investigation and no other assets were seized.

“The investigation is continuing.”
