ANNIE Power should make over €1 million if, as expected, she is offered for sale at the Tattersalls Ireland November National Hunt Sale in Fairyhouse later this year.

That is the view of her breeder Eamon Cleary, who believes the now retired Champion Hurdle winner could easily produce a top-class middle distance horse for the flat.

Cleary bred Annie Power with a flat campaign in mind but, as she continued to grow while in training with Jim Bolger, she did not race until turning four, when she won two bumpers before being bought by Willie Mullins on behalf of owner Rich Ricci.

Ricci has traditionally sold his racemares at auction and, though the owner was uncontactable this week, The Irish Field understands that Annie Power, in foal to Camelot, will be offered for sale at public auction. The Ricci-owned Tarla (€170,000) and Valyssa Monterg (€160,000) have topped recent editions of the November Sale.

Cleary said of Annie Power: “She has a fabulous pedigree and I would be surprised if she didn’t make a million. I would have gone with a proven sire rather than Camelot but he could be anything. In my opinion ‘Annie’ would have been Group 2 or Group 3 class on the flat, and I believe that stayers make the best broodmares.” Top racemares sometimes prove disappointing at stud but Cleary believes this will not be the case with Annie Power could be an exception. “She’s lightly raced, never had a hard season and looks fresh. Her sisters and half-sisters have made good money too.”
