THE surge in demand for high-class point-to-pointers and National Hunt horses with smart form is expected to continue at the Goffs Punchestown Sale after racing next Thursday.
Already a couple of good bumper winners are due to be sold along with four recent point-to-point scorers. Goffs will be taking more entries at all five point-to-points this weekend while it would be no surprise if a winner on the first day of the Punchestown Festival makes a quick reappearance at Thursday’s sale.
Last year’s Punchestown Sale was topped by Vision Des Flos, who sold for €270,000 just 48 hourse after winning the Goffs Land Rover Bumper.
Noel Meade’s recent Cork winner Impatient Partner and last Sunday’s Tramore bumper winner Agusta Gold, trained by Mags Mullins, are due to be sold next week.
Impatient Partner is a son of Gold Well and he twice placed in Dromahane point-to-points before winning on his racecourse debut, turning over the well-regarded, Willie Mullins-trained Stay Humble, with the pair 31 lengths clear of their field.
The winning pointers in the select catalogue are the Rathcannon duo of At The Acorn (four-year-old) and Champagne Well (five-year-old), plus Stradbally five-year-old winner Lord Springfield. Another interesting entry is George Stewart’s I’m Here (five-year-old), who was an eye-catching winner last month of a 12-runner maiden at Kirkistown.
