The pair recorded one of seven clear rounds in the jump-off and finished on 41.33 seconds, behind Norway’s Cecilie Hatteland who finished clear on 39.43. Breen had been unlucky to drop a rail in the seven-year-old class riding another from Karen Swann, the Westfalian stallion Cabriole.

Fellow Irish rider Alexander Butler slotted into third place when he finished clear on 42.85 aboard Harold McGahern’s Irish Sport Horse Will Wimble.

While Michael Duffy was ahead of Butler on time, one pole on the floor pushed him down to 10th place on the 10-year-old Dutch Warmblood mare Zarnita.

The previous day, Duffy had finished second in the 1.40m class against the clock on Touch Of Chilli, owned by Linda Buchannan and Breen Equestrian, and fourth on Widny, jointly owned by Breen Equestrian and Quirke Sport Horses.

However Duffy’s time of 60.37 on the Irish-bred Touch Of Chilli was not enough to dislodge his compatriot David Simpson from the top spot. Riding the nine-year-old gelding Arantos, Simpson finished clear on 60.28 to win the class.

Duffy had already won the 1.35m against the clock on Saturday, riding the grey Belgian Warmblood mare Shahenaz, owned by Prince Sultan Saud.

Simpson notched up another first place in the 1.30m against the clock, as well as a sixth place. The win came courtesy of the eight-year-old mare Little Penny, owned by Sarah Lewis, while another mare, Clear The Way, gave him the sixth spot. Simpson and Little Penny had finished fifth in the 1.30m two-phase class on the Friday.

Darragh McCarthy won a 1.30m speed class riding Whisper S, beating Britain’s Emma Stoker into second place by a narrow margin of 0.42 on Saturday. He had finished ninth in the 1.45m the previous day on board Andino Z.

Co Down native Dermott Lennon finished fifth in a competitive 1.40m class on the Saturday, where 14 riders went through to the jump-off. Lennon and the Irish Sport Horse mare Calgot Pleasure, whose dam is the former world champion Liscalgot, recorded one of eight clear rounds in the class, which was won by Germany’s Marc Bettinger riding Mustax Astras.

Lennon also took eighth place in the 1.40m speed class with the Irish Sport Horse Derryinver Luxury Cruise.

Meanwhile, Shiekh Samir Mirdad recorded back-to-back wins on the Friday and Saturday, winning the 1.20m class on his mare Mirdads Hubb Alrahmaaa and the 1.10m on his grey gelding Mirdads Jebreel. Mirdad had a one-two in the 1.10m, taking second place on Uraeus.

Ronan McLaughlin also featured in both classes, taking fourth place in the 1.20m on Argus IV and 10th spot in the 1.10m riding Le Noir De Trebox Z, who went on to finish seventh in the 1.10m two-phase competition last Saturday.

Peig Van Amerongen took ninth place in the 1.20m after she and her own Dree Boeken’s Grossos Ro went clear in the jump-off.
