MINISTER for Agriculture, Food and the Marine Martin Heydon, together with Minister of State at the Department of Climate, Energy and the Environment, Alan Dillon, have this month announced the commencement of six Farm Hazardous Waste Collection days over the coming weeks.
This initiative continues to progress hazardous waste management in accordance with the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA’s) National Hazardous Waste Management Plan (NHWMP) 2021-2027.
It builds on the success of the 2024 trial collection days, which collected 95,000kg of hazardous waste from approximately 600 farms.
The collection days are being supported through strengthened cooperation with stakeholders in the veterinary medicine and plant protection product sectors.
Minister Heydon said:
“I encourage farmers across all farm enterprises to avail of this service and to dispose of any hazardous waste which may be on their farms.
“The removal of such waste from farms ensures compliance with legislation and reduces possible biosecurity, environmental or human health risks.”
