Thoroughbred Industry Access Course
A 16-week residential training course that introduces people with general or no equine experience to the thoroughbred breeding sector. Tailored learning plans enable learners to work towards industry-recognised qualifications, while developing key practical skills such as handling bloodstock, equine husbandry, foaling, and sales preparation, where appropriate.
Apprenticeships
Level 2 Equine Pathway (Breeding Pathway)
An 18-month course. Completed on a UK stud farm, earn whilst you learn and gain practical experience from industry professionals. Delivered in partnership with Myerscough College you can expect regular guidance from a National Stud or Myerscough assessor.
Level 3 Equine Pathway (Breeding Pathway)
For individuals working in the thoroughbred industry looking to progress and gain the experience required for a managerial position.
Level 3 Stud Mgt & Sales Consignment course
This 26-week residential course for those with thoroughbred handling experience offers an immersive, hands-on experience covering every stage of the stud year from sales preparation to foaling. Learners will assist in caring for our stallion roster, take part in sales placements, gain experience in the stud office and nominations department, and shadow vets/farriers.
Career Progression Development & short courses
Level 3 Award in Foaling Practices:
A 6-week non-residential part-time programme providing the opportunity to learn how to foal mares whilst developing an understanding of the theory behind the practice. This qualification is only available at The National Stud. Applicants are required to have two years of equine experience.
Stud Administration course: A two-day programme in October designed to help delegates gain knowledge of the stud office, administration procedures and veterinary practices.
Transporting horses: Level 2 Awards in Transporting Horses on Long and Short Journeys designed to provide the skills and knowledge to transport horses safely and legally.
First Aid & Manual Handling: Basic emergency first aid at work, moving and handling awareness course. Rolling course dates.
