CAFRE Equine students receive financial awards

The Irish Field were among those businesses honoured to be presenting the talented CAFRE equine students with bursaries to support their studies

The Irish Thoroughbred Breeders Association was presented to Erin Reid by Peter O’Reilly at the Bursary Awards event. Erin from Newtownards is studying on the Foundation Degree in Equine Management course at Enniskillen Campus.

The Godolphin travel bursary was presented by Ciara Devitt to Nadia Donnelly from Omagh at the Industry Support awards event. Nadia is a final year student on the BSc (Hons) Degree in Equine Management course and will be travelling to Belgium later this year to view equine business operations.

Rosie Kane presented the Derrinstown Stud bursary to Libby Beirne from Kildare at the awards event at CAFRE. Libby is studying at Enniskillen Campus for a BSc (Hons) Degree in Equine Management.

Alan Warnock presented The Vaughan Trust bursary to Shauna Gillen from Belleek at the Industry Support awards event. Shauna is studying on the first year of the BSc (Hons) Degree in Equine Management course at Enniskillen Campus.

Hayley Anderson from Westmeath was awarded the Coolmore bursary. Hayley is studying for a Foundation Degree in Equine Management at CAFRE Enniskillen Campus.

Helen Sharp presented The Irish Field travel bursary to Sinead McKeon at the Industry Support programme. Sinead, a final year Honours Degree student from Ballinalee will travel to Brussels later this year to visit equine establishments learning from their operations.

The Gerry Dilger Foundation travel bursary was presented to Faith Black from Newtownards at the CAFRE Industry Support Programme by CAFRE Lecturer, Gayle Moane.

Michaela Doran from Downpatrick was presented with the Ulster Carpets bursary by Jane Elliott, Head of Equine, Enniskillen Campus at the Industry Support Programme awards event at CAFRE.

The Tyrone Farming Society bursary was presented by Gerry McFarland to Ava Stubbs from Clogher. Ava is studying on the BSc (Hons) Degree in Equine Management course at CAFRE.

The Tinnakill House Stud bursary was presented to Katie Bell from Wicklow. Katie is completing the online Certificate of Higher Education in Equine Science and Management course with CAFRE, and received her award from interim College Director, Paul McHenry.

The Show Jumping Ireland bursary was presented by Neal Doherty to Aoibheann Brady from Navan. Aoibheann is studying on the first year of the BSc (Hons) Degree course in Equine Management at Enniskillen Campus.

Zara Moore from Banbridge was presented with the new Pearce Lyons Ace Foundation travel bursary by Chris Bogues, Equine Lecturer, CAFRE. Zara will use the bursary to contribute to the costs of a study tour later this year to Belgium

The Juddmonte Ireland bursary was presented to Shelley Corry from Tandragee. Shelley received the award from Senior Lecturer, Alison Morris on behalf of the business. Shelley is studying for a Certificate of Higher Education in Equine Science and Management, an online course, validated by Ulster University

Jane Elliott, CAFRE Head of Equine presented the Horse Racing Ireland bursary to Erin Donaghy. Erin from Ahoghill is studying on the BSc (Hons) Degree in Equine Management at Enniskillen Campus

BSc (Hons) Degree in Equine Management student Molly Murray from Belfast was presented with the Downpatrick Racecourse bursary by Ruth Morrison

Claudia McAvennie from Ballymoney was presented with the Danske Bank bursary from Seamus McCormick at the Industry Support awards event. Claudia is studying on the first year of the Foundation Degree in Equine Management at Enniskillen Campus

Equine students attended a ceremony hosted at the College of Agriculture, Food and Rural Enterprise’s (CAFRE) Cookstown campus to formally present Bursary Awards.

Over the years CAFRE’s Equine students have benefitted greatly from the generous support and close partnerships built with industry professionals across Ireland and beyond, established through Enniskillen Campus.

The 2025 – 2026 Industry Support programme at Enniskillen Campus awarded £24,000 to Equine students pursuing Certificate of Higher Education, Foundation Degree, and Bachelor’s Honours Degree courses.

“I am delighted that this year six of the bursaries awarded have been allocated to support students as they travel to learn more about equine businesses and their operations in Belgium”, commented Gayle Moane, Lecturer at Enniskillen Campus.

“At CAFRE, our partnership with the equine industry is something we’re incredibly proud of. It shows just how powerful collaboration can be. By working side-by-side with industry professionals, we make sure our students gain the real-world skills and confidence they need to thrive in a fast-moving equine world. Together, we’re shaping the next generation of equine talent,” commented Jane Elliott, Head of Equine at Enniskillen Campus.
