The Irish National Stud is renowned for providing world-class training for young people interested in a career in the equine industry. Since its introduction in 1971, the Irish National Stud’s Thoroughbred Breeding Course has become the best-known equine training programme in the world and many graduates have become prominent in stud farms, racehorse training, bloodstock sales, insurance and the media all across the globe.
The six-month residential programme which commences mid-January each year is designed to provide students with a hands-on practical approach to every aspect of thoroughbred breeding and provides them with the opportunity to interact with the best tutors and leaders in the equine industry.
Students are expected to complete assignments and continuous assessments during the course and successful candidates receive the Irish National Stud certificate which is recognised worldwide in the thoroughbred bloodstock industry.

The Irish National Stud Thoroughbred Breeding Course has been a once-in-a lifetime experience. It opened my doors to the European thoroughbred Industry, and every second spent at the stud, throughout the duration of the course, has been a new learning opportunity.
It is an in-depth course where, the network you build, the friends and colleagues you make, and the experience earned, is invaluable and of an outstanding professional level.

The education and guidance received from both the staff and lecturers while on the course was second to none. Having the opportunity to live with like-minded people from a diverse range of backgrounds was a thoroughly enjoyable and enlightening experience. I have no doubt that the friendships and contacts made in this process will benefit us all personally and professionally in the future.
