WEATHERBYS Ireland should be notified of all foals bred in Ireland for racing within 30 days of their birth. The 30-day foal notification is a new feature to the process for 2019 and is a mandatory obligation. Following notification a markings chart and blood kit will be issued.

Once the sampling kits and microchips have been issued to your veterinary surgeon. Arrange to take a DNA sample, do the markings and microchipping. This should be carried out within four weeks of birth.

You have until July 31st to get organised. Before you begin the process of foal registration, ensure the dam is correctly registered as a broodmare. Also ensure the covering certificate has been issued by the stallion owner in order to proceed with the foal registration process. A covering certificate will be issued once all relevant stud fees have been paid. The covering certificate will be lodged electronically with Weatherbys.

Foal registration should be completed by July 31st within the year of birth in order to avail of the lowest fee. Registration can be completed online or by traditional means. Any applications after this date are liable to be charged at a higher rate. The HRI Foal Levy is aid with the foal registration fee.
