BAHAMIAN Bounty retired from stallion duties last summer following a long and successful career at the National Stud in Newmarket.

Winner of the Group 1 Prix Morny and Group 1 Middle Park Stakes, he was among the star sons of sprint ace Cadeaux Genereux (by Young Generation) and traits such as speed, precocity, and the ability to notch up eye-catching win totals are often found among his progeny.

roll of honour

The Group 1 winners Goodricke and Pastoral Pursuits head his roll of honour, so far, the latter a prolific blacktype sire who has also been on the National Stud roster since 2006, and those successful at Group 2 level include Anjaal, one of the newest additions to the Irish stallion ranks.

He won the Group 2 July Stakes over six furlongs at Newmarket as a two-year-old, and when he finished third in the Group 2 Lennox Stakes the following summer he was beaten just a neck and half a length by Es Que Love and juvenile champion Toormore, with subsequent Group 1 scorer Garswood behind in fourth.

Es Que Love and his classic-winning sire Clodovil (by Danehill) stand at Rathasker Stud, along with the high-class juvenile sprinter Bungle Inthejungle (by Exceed And Excel), and this is the team that Anjaal has joined for his stallion career.

best runner

The best runner, so far, for the dual winning mare Ballymore Celebre (by Peintre Celebre), he is out of a half-sister to the Group 1-placed multiple pattern scorer Nysaean (by Sadler’s Wells), to the stakes-winning sprinter Charme Slave (by Sicyos), and to the Group 1 National Stakes runner-up Celtic Cavalier (by Caerleon).

The mare is also a half-sister to Lili Cup (by Fabulous Dancer), dam of the Group 3-winning sprinter Uruk (by Efisio), and there is a long list of stakes winners to be found in the third generation of his pedigree, a mixture of two-year-olds, sprinters, and middle-distance horses.

His third dam Arme d’Or (by Armistice) was placed in the Grand Prix de Deauville and in the Prix Maurice de Nieuil, and it would appear to be the influence of Bahamian Bounty that gave Anjaal his speed and precocity.

These are traits that are associated with his male line and so ones that we can expect to see in many of his progeny, and yet with the stamina in the distaff side he is also a sire who, with the right mares could also get some talented milers and 10 furlong horses.

stallion potential

Being able to get good winners over a variety of distances boosts a stallion’s potential to take high rank in the overall general sires championship title race, and Anjaal’s combination of pedigree and ability make him an intriguing addition to roster.

He should be popular with breeders and is an ideal cross for mares with Danehill, Danzig and Green Desert blood. He is competitively priced too for breeders.

Won two races, £90,111, from 5 furlongs to 6 furlongs, at 2 years including, Portland Place Properties July Stakes, Newmarket, Gr.2, also placed third in bet365 Lennox Stakes, Goodwood, Gr.2. Retires to stud in 2016.
