DANEHILL rewrote the history books, siring a world record 348 stakes winners, being crowned champion sire multiple times here and in Australia, and being the horse whose phenomenal early success ‘down under’ was largely responsible for the now global shuttle sire industry.
The son of Danzig (by Northern Dancer) forged his own mighty dynasty and his many major sire sons include Dansili, the Banstead Manor Stud ace who is building a growing reputation himself as a sire of successful stallions.
Last year, for example, Dansili’s Group 1-winning son Zoffany made the breakthrough at the highest level when his classic-placed first-crop son Ventura Storm took the Premio Jockey Club at San Siro, while Zacinto was represented by Group 1 New Zealand 2000 Guineas winner Ugo Foscolo.
Also, his freshman sons Bated Breach, Delegator, Famous Name and Requinto were all blacktype sires in 2016 and the latter, who, like Zoffany, is a Coolmore team member, had a string of winners that included Group 2 July Stakes third Broken Stones (dam by Footstepsinthesand), a 200,000gns Tattersalls Craven Breeze-Up graduate.
Requinto has proven that he can sire speedy juveniles, and it is just a matter of time before his first stakes and pattern winners emerge, but it may be that, like his sire, many of his best results will come with three-year-olds and older horses.
Juvenile Group 2 winner of the Flying Childers Stakes, Requinto is out of the champion and Group 1 Phoenix Stakes heroine Damson (by Entrepreneur), a half-sister to Group 3 Prestige Stakes winner Geminiani (by King Of Kings).
Juvenile stars Arcano (by Oasis Dream), Godfrey Street (by Compton Place), Blue Dakota (by Namid) and Tarwiya (by Dominion) appear in branches of the third generation of his family, but most of the other major winners on the page excelled at three years and older.
They include Group 1 Prix de l’Abbaye de Longchamp heroine Gilt Edge Girl (by Monsieur Bond), recent South African Group 1 star Whisky Baron (by Manhattan Rain), classic-placed Group 2 winner Tasaday (by Nayef), Group 1 Prix Royal-Oak scorer Tiraaz (by Lear Fan), and last year’s notable pair Tribal Beat (by Street Cry) and Sword Fighter (by Galileo).
Even the aforementioned juvenile ace Tarwiya put up a top effort at three as she finished third in the Group 1 Irish 1000 Guineas.
All of this makes Requinto a most promising prospect and, in addition to more two-year-old winners and blacktype sprint horses, we could see good results from his mile and 10-furlong horses too in 2017. His yearlings made up to 125,000gns in 2016, with a top foal price of €76,000 achieved at Goffs.
Won four races, £98,429, over 5 furlongs, at 2 years including, Polypipe Flying Childers Stakes, Doncaster, Gr.2, bet365 Molecomb Stakes, Goodwood, Gr.3, Danehill Dancer Tipperary Stakes, Tipperary, L.
Retired to stud in 2013, and sire of the winners of 25 races and £252,984, including Broken Stones (IRE)
