THE list of National Hunt blacktype winners who represent the Danehill (by Danzig) line include Full Day (dam by Diesis). That capable dual-purpose mare got the most recent of her five wins in a flat handicap over an extended two miles at York last July and her tally also includes a listed race victory over hurdles at Wetherby, an event for which she was an odds-on favourite.

She is some way down the rankings of her sire’s best offspring, because he has given us standouts such as Group 1 Gold Cup winner Trip To Paris (dam by Fantastic Light) and the classic-placed pattern winners Jack Naylor (Nashwan) and Xcellence (Xaar), but she is proof that Champs Elysees (by Danehill) is capable of getting some high-class performers under National Hunt rules too.

This is important now that his focus has been switched from flat-only to dual-purpose and he looks sure to prove very popular in his new home at Castlehyde Stud.

The leading Champs Elysees offspring also include Juddmonte’s notably talented mare Suffused (Daylami), a Grade 3 winner at Saratoga last year who missed out on Grade 1 victory by just a nose in Canada, and who has already won two Grade 3 contests at Gulfstream Park in 2017.

Champs Elysees was Group 1-placed in Europe before crossing the Atlantic and when he returned to join the team at Banstead Manor Stud in Newmarket he did so as a triple Grade 1 star.

He is a son of the listed scorer and phenomenal broodmare Hasili (by Kahyasi) and so is a sibling to the Group/Grade 1 winners Banks Hill (by Danehill), Cacique (by Danehill), Heat Haze (by Green Desert) and Intercontinental (by Danehill), as well as of the multiple Group 1-placed Group 2 scorer and successful sire Dansili (by Danehill).

Banks Hill is the dam of Group 1 heroine Romantica (by Galileo) and of Group 2-placed stakes winner Ideal World (by Kingmambo) who, like Cacique and Champs Elysees, is a Group 1 sire.

Dansili, of course, has not just sired one or even a handful of top-level winners, but he is a prolific source of top-class international performers, an outstanding stallion who is now building a reputation as a supplier of successful sire sons.

It was always odds-on that Champs Elysees would get at least one Group 1 winner, and given the chance there is no reason why he could not get another one. He is already off the mark as a National Hunt blacktype sire and, recently, as a sire of Irish point-to-point winners.
