SOMEHOW holds a string of Group 1 entries and the Aidan O’Brien-trained three-year-old took her record to two wins from three starts when winning the Listed Arkle Finance Cheshire Oaks (for The Robert Sangster Memorial Cup) over 11 and a half furlongs at Chester.
Another good horse bred by the partnership of Orpendale, Chelston & Wynatt, the daughter of Australian champion sire Fastnet Rock (by Danehill) is a half-sister to the Group 2 Prix Kergorlay winner Alex My Boy (by Dalakhani) and she is out of triple Group 1 star Alexandrova (by Sadler’s Wells).
Her dam’s big treble came in the Oaks, Irish Oaks and Yorkshire Oaks, she was short-headed when runner-up to Nannina in the Group 1 Fillies’ Mile as a juvenile, and the full-sister to 2009s Derby third Masterofthehorse is a half-sister to the Group 1 Cheveley Park Stakes heroine Magical Romance (by Barathea).
The latter is the dam of the Group 2-placed dual Australian stakes winner Tall Ship (by Sea The Stars), and Masterofthehorse, who stands at Annshoon Stud, got his first winner in January.
SHOUK
The grandam of Somehow is the one-time scorer Shouk (by Shirley Heights), and in addition to being a half-sister to the Group 2 Goodwood Cup runner-up Golden Quest (by Rainbow Quest), she is a half-sister to two mares who have made an impact at stud.
Sitara (by Salse) won once from eight starts, her grand-daughter Julie’s Love (by Ad Valorem) was Group 2-placed in Germany before becoming a stakes winner at Saratoga and Grade 2-placed in Canada, but her son Golden Sword (by High Chaparral) is the Group 3 Chester Vase scorer who chased home Fame And Glory in the Group 1 Irish Derby seven years ago.
The other notable sister is pattern-placed stakes winner Puce (by Darshaan), dam of Group 2 Lancashire Oaks winner Pongee (by Barathea) and of pattern-placed stakes winner Lion Sands (by Montjeu), grandam of three blacktype scorers, and third dam of 2013s Group 1 Irish Oaks heroine Chicquita (by Montjeu). This is a filly who was always going to be a middle-distance horse, and now that she has a first blacktype victory to her name we can probably expect to see Somehow take her chance in some of the top fillies’ races of the year.
