THE Ballydoyle team took all three blacktype juvenile contests at the Curragh on Sunday, and Qualify was the first to strike, easily winning the Group 3 C.L. & M.F. Weld Park Stakes over seven furlongs.

This three-length defeat of Lola Beaux and Stellar Glow was achieved in a quick time, and that trio pulled five lengths clear of the rest, which is generally a good sign.

Qualify was bred by Whisperview Trading Ltd, her full-brother was Lot 425 in Wednesday’s session of the Goffs Orby Sale in Kill, and as she comes from a family of classic stars, she has given her future paddocks value a tremendous boost.

She represents the second northern hemisphere crop of the sprint star and outstanding Australian stallion Fastnet Rock (by Danehill), a champion sire whose 16 individual Group 1 winners include the sprint ace Foxwedge who has twice shuttled to Whitsbury Manor Stud, and whose European foals will be on offer in the coming months.

The third foal and third winner out of the Group 2 Park Hill Stakes runner-up Perihelion (by Galileo), she is out of a granddaughter of the Group 1 Oaks runner-up Media Luna (by Star Appeal), and so comes from the family of Brian Boru, Flute, and Workforce, among others.

Perihelion, who had a Henrythenavigator (by Kingmambo) filly in April, is the best of six winners out of the dual scorer Medicosma (by The Minstrel), and she is also a half-sister to a non-winning mare called Nursling (by Kahyasi), who is the dam of the prolific dual-purpose horse, and blacktype winning hurdler Callisto Moon (by Mujahid).

More notable, however, is that Medicosma is a half-sister to the Group 3 Park Hill Stakes winner Eva Luna (by Alleged) and to the Grade 2-placed stakes winner Rougeur (by Blushing Groom) and both those talented fillies went on to fame at stud.

Rougeur is the dam of the Grade 1 Kentucky Oaks and Grade 1 Alabama Stakes heroine Flute (by Seattle Slew), and of that star’s stakes winning half-sister Velvet Morning (by Broad Brush), and Flute is still enhancing her family’s record as her daughter Filimbi (by Mizzen Mast) added a mile listed contest at Saratoga this year to a French listed success of 2013.

Eva Luna is very well-known in Europe as her son Brian Boru (by Sadler’s Wells) won the Group 1 St Leger and Group 1 Racing Post Trophy before going on to success as a National Hunt stallion, his half-brother Sea Moon (by Beat Hollow) is a multiple Group 2 scorer, and his sisters include the Group 2 winner Moon Search (by Rainbow Quest) and the listed scorer Kitty O’Shea (by Sadler’s Wells).

Moon Search is, in turn, the dam of the Grade 1-winning hurdler Cinders And Ashes (by Beat Hollow), and Kitty O’Shea is the dam of the 12-furlong stakes winner and Group 1 Moyglare Stud Stakes third Kissable (by Danehill Dancer).

Eva Luna is also responsible for the unraced Soviet Moon (by Sadler’s Wells), the mare who gave us the Group 1 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe and runaway Group 1 Derby hero Workforce (by King’s Best). He stands at Shadai Stallion Station in Japan, and his first crop are yearlings.

Qualify holds entries in the Group 1 Dubai Fillies’ Mile and the Group 1 Irish 1000 Guineas, and the way in which she won last week would make her an interesting contender for those top races.
