GROUP 1 Prix du Jockey Club (French Derby) winner Le Havre (by Noverre) has made an exciting start to his stallion career with a double-digit tally of stakes winners that’s headed by the dual classic heroine Avenir Certain.

A half-brother to listed scorer Astronereus (by Sea The Stars) and out of a half-sister to Pivotal’s Group 1-winning sire Polar Falcon (by Nureyev), the Haras de la Cauviniere stallion was represented on Sunday by La Cressonniere and she extended her unbeaten record to five with an odds-on victory in the Listed Prix La Camargo over a mile at Saint-Cloud.

She began her career over seven furlongs at Clairefontaine in July, followed up at Craon two months later, took the Listed Prix Isonomy by three and a half lengths over a mile at Deauville in October, and then won the Listed Prix Herod easily over seven at Chantilly.

Bred by Franklin Finance S.A., she is out of Absolute Lady (by Galileo), a maiden full-sister to the listed scorer and Group 2 Blandford Stakes third Paris Winds. That sister has produced two winners from her first two foals and her yearling Pivotal colt, who is closely related to Sunday’s scorer, made 150,000gns from Book 2 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale five months ago, bought by John Ferguson Bloodstock.

Their dam Lil’s Jessy (by Kris) won the Group 3 Nell Gwyn Stakes in 2001 and she is among 10 successful runners from an unraced mare called Lobmille (by Mill Reef), a tally that includes the Grade 1-placed stakes winner Lone Bid (by Priolo) and the talented and prolific Belgian horse Lobbyist (by Mtoto).

The fourth dam of La Cressonniere won one of her two starts and although the multiple stakes-placed Lobbit (by Habitat) was the best of her offspring, Light O’Battle’s siblings included the Group 1 1000 Guineas and Group 1 Prix de Diane heroine Highclere (by Queen’s Hussar) who was her full-sister.

Highclere went on to have a profound impact on the breed as she became the dam of Group 2 Princess of Wales's Stakes winner Height Of Fashion (by Bustino) and of other notable broodmares Burghclere (by Busted), Highbrow (by Shirley Heights) and Wily Trick (by Clever Trick), and so she is the mare from whom Group 1 stars such as Nashwan (by Blushing Groom), Nayef (by Gulch), Ghanaati (by Giant's Causeway), Lahudood (by Singspiel), Ask (by Sadler's Wells), Wind In Her Hair (by Alzao), Deep Impact (by Sunday Silence), and many others of note, all descend.

La Cressonniere has won her five starts by an aggregate of over 14 lengths and although it remains to be seen just how good this unbeaten triple stakes winner will be when she reaches her peak, her pedigree gives her every chance of becoming one of the stars of 2016.
