BALLYLINCH Stud’s late Group 1 winner and outstanding sire King’s Theatre (by Sadler’s Wells) has led the sires’ championship title race for most of the season and he added to his blacktype tally at Fairyhouse on Sunday when Solita won the Grade B BoyleSports Novice Handicap Chase.

Victory in this two miles, one furlong contest was the seventh in her career and her second from four starts over the larger obstacles.

Robert Hennelly’s homebred seven-year-old won a two-mile handicap hurdle at Leopardstown on her previous outing, and although aspects the first couple of generations of her pedigree look firmly National Hunt in orientation, hers is a family with flat racing roots, and even classic connections.

Solita is the second foal out of the unraced Over The Water (by Erins Isle), and as that grand-daughter of Busted (by Crepello) is a half-sister to Savitha (by King’s Theatre), Sunday’s winner could be described as being a three-parts sister to a Grade 1 performer.

Savitha, whose first foal is the Wexford bumper winner Presavita (by Presenting), won a bumper, three times over hurdles and once over fences, and she earned her blacktype with placings in the Grade 1 Arkle Challenge Cup Chase, Grade 2 Craddockstown Novice Chase, Grade C New Stand Handicap Hurdle and in a Grade C handicap chase at Fairyhouse. Savitha’s third foal is a four-year-old named Reelingintheyears (by Flemensfirth), who made €55,000 at last year’s Goffs Landrover Sale, and her fourth is a full-brother to that gelding, born two years ago.

ITALIAN SCORER

The grandam of Solita is the dual Italian flat scorer Irish Call (by Irish River), and in addition to being a half-sister to a stakes-placed prolific winner in South America, she is also a half-sister to I Am Calling You (by In Reality), a filly who was placed twice in the USA.

What makes that one significant is that she became the dam of the Indian Oaks and Golconda 1000 Guineas heroine Twin Star (by Portroe), and that classic star, in turn, is the dam of Indian Derby and Indian St Leger scorer Antonios (by Glory of Dancer).

Collect Call (by Bold Bidder), who is the third dam of Solita, earned her blacktype when runner-up in the Grade 3 Honeymoon Handicap and her 10 winning siblings include her Grade 3-winning full-sisters Bold Place and Card Table.

With so much blacktype in her pedigree it is no surprise that Solita has earned some too and there is every reason to hope that she could become a broodmare of note.
