LAWMAN'S NEXT CLASSIC STAR?

Ballylinch Stud stallion Lawman (by Invincible Spirit) has five Group 1 winners to his name – including the classic stars Harbour Law and Just The Judge – and he may have another classic contender in 2019.

The Fabrice Chappet-trained Rocques made a winning debut over seven furlongs at Chantilly in July, followed that with a three-and-a-half-length score over the same trip at Clairefontaine three weeks later, and then beat Ceratonia by three-parts of a length in the Group 3 Prix d'Aumale over a mile at ParisLongchamp on Sunday.

She may bid to make it four-in-a-row in next month's Group 1 Prix Marcel Boussac.

The €55,000 Arqana Deauville October Yearling Sale purchase was bred by San Paolo Agri Stud Srl, her sole older sibling has won over 10 and a half furlongs in France, and her dam, stakes-placed Regina Mundi (by Montjeu), is a half-sister to listed winner and Group 2 King Edward VII Stakes runner-up Delsarte (by Theatrical).

Her grandam, Delauncy (by Machiavellian), was short-headed in a 10-furlong listed contest in France, but is out of Casey (by Caerleon), who won the Group 2 Park Hill Stakes at Doncaster and was Grade 1-placed at Aqueduct.

All of this suggests that Rocques will stay the Group 1 Prix de Diane (French Oaks) trip next year and, later in that season, possibly the extra furlong and a half of the Group 1 Prix Vermeille.

NEW GROUP WINNER FOR KODIAC

Tally-Ho Stud stallion Kodiac (by Danehill) added to his blacktype tally on Saturday when the John Gosden-trained Kessaar won the Group 3 188Bet Casino Sirenia Stakes at Kempton.

This was the colt's first run on an artificial track, his second win from five starts, and it catches the eye that he holds entries in both the Group 2 Dubai Duty Free Mill Reef Stakes and Group 1 Juddmonte Middle Park Stakes.

He was bred by Tally-Ho Stud, consigned by them when he made 100,000gns from Book 2 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale, and he is a full-brother to the Hugo Palmer-trained Breaking Records who has won at Wolverhampton and Haydock this year.

The pair are the first two foals out of Querulous (by Raven's Pass), their grandam is the pattern-placed miler Contentious (by Giant's Causeway), and that mare is a half-sister to the dual nine-furlong Grade 2 scorer Gone Astray (by Dixie Union).

If you go back farther on the page then you will find that the fourth dam of Kessaar is the champion and six-time Grade 1 star Inside Information (by Private Account) who was both the dam of champion and dual Grade 1 heroine Smuggler (by Unbridled) and a half-sister to Grade 1 scorer Educated Risk (by Mr Prospector).

There are many more talented horses to be found in the various branches of this family, and it will be interesting to see if Kessaar's future lies in sprints or, whether like so many in his lineage, he will stay a mile.

ZOFFANY RISING STAR

Coolmore Stud's Zoffany (by Dansili) has another high-class prospect to his name if judged by the way in which Fleeting won the Group 2 William Hill May Hill Stakes over a mile at Doncaster on Thursday.

The Aidan O'Brien-trained juvenile was bred by Fernando Bermudez, she made €100,000 in Deauville as a yearling, and she is a daughter of the Spanish middle-distance winner Azafata (by Motivator).

Her grandam, stakes-placed Anysheba (by Alysheba), is a half-sister to Group 3 Prix de Royaumont scorer Sadler's Flag (by Sadler's Wells), and this is a prolific blacktype family whose many stars include Group 1 ace and leading international sire Poliglote (by Sadler's Wells).

FIRST FOR REQUINTO

Group 2 Flying Childers Stakes winner Requinto (by Dansili), who raced only as a juvenile, was represented by his first stakes winner when Great Scot took the Listed 32Red Casino Ascendant Stakes over a mile on heavy ground at Haydock on Saturday.

That Tom Dascombe-trained colt comes from the third crop of his young Coolmore sire and the victory came just a few weeks after he lost out by two short-heads in a listed contest over the same trip at Deauville.

Before that, the colt was twice a winner over seven furlongs – on fast ground at Chester and on good at Haydock – and his next start may be in next month's Group 1 Racing Post Trophy Stakes at Doncaster.

Great Scott was bred by the partnership Clyde, Mound and Thompson, he was a £2,500 buy-back at the Tattersalls Ireland Ascot November Mixed Sale, and has already earned almost £43,000 this season.

He is the first foal of a placed mare called La Rosiere (by Mr Greeley), his grandam is called Snowtime (by Galileo), and his third dam is stakes winner Alidiva (by Chief Singer).

The latter is, of course, the dam of Group 1 1000 Guineas heroine Sleepytime (by Royal Academy), of Group 1 Sussex Stakes scorer Ali-Royal (by Royal Academy), of middle-distance Group 1 star Taipan (by Last Tycoon), and of US nine-furlong Grade 2 winner Oonagh Maccool (by Giant's Causeway).

These pedigree connections, combined with the promising start he has made to his racing career, make Great Scot an interesting prospect, and he could be the one to help get his sire's stallion career going.

ANODIN'S FIRST

Goldikova's high-class full-brother Anodin (by Anabaa), who stands at Haras Du Quesnay, became the latest freshman sire with a first-crop pattern winner to his name when the Freddy Head-trained Anodor took the Group 3 Prix des Chenes over a mile at ParisLongchamp on Sunday.

The one who chased him home was Insandi, another son of Anodin, and the stallion's first juveniles also feature listed scorer Harmless.

Anodor, a January-born chesnut, has won both his races by two-length margins, and his next appearance may be in next month's Group 1 Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere on Arc weekend.

He was bred by Ian Fair, failed to meet his reserve when offered from book two of the Arqana August Yearling Sale, and is the first foal of the middle-distance handicapper Decize (by Kentucky Dynamite).

His grandam, Ourika (by Danehill Dancer), won over seven furlongs, and that half-sister to stakes-placed sprinter Katerini (by Cacique) is a granddaughter of Navratilovna (by Nureyev) who won the Group 2 Prix d'Astarte back in 1989.

Katerini, by the way, is the dam of five-and-a-half-furlong Group 3 scorer Aladdine (by Naaqoos) and of Group 2-placed Gallic Chieftain (by Tamayuz), who was short-headed in the 12-furlong Group 3 Geelong Cup last October.

LISTOWEL LISTED WINNER PANSTARR RELATED TO A DERBY HERO

Godolphin's homebred Panstarr gave her future paddocks value a tremendous boost when taking the Listed Edmund & Josie Whelan Memorial Listowel Stakes on Monday as this nine-furlong contest was the first blacktype win for the multiple stakes-placed four-year-old.

A daughter of Cheveley Park Stud's outstanding veteran Pivotal (by Polar Falcon), the Jim Bolger-trained bay is out of Halle Bop (by Dubai Millennium), a mare whose stakes-winning dam, Napoleon's Sister (by Alzao), is a half-sister to two Group 1 stars.

The elder of the pair is multiple middle-distance top-level winner and blacktype sire Pelder (by Be My Guest) and the younger one is 1999's Group 1 Derby hero Oath (by Fairy King).

The many other notable horses in the family include Group 2 Blandford Stakes heroine Manieree (by Medicean), whose dam, Sheer Spirit (by Caerleon), is a half-sister to those top horses.

BOOST FOR TEOFILO FILLY

Kildangan Stud stallion Teofilo (by Galileo) has 14 Group 1 stars to his name among a current career tally of just over 80 individual stakes winners, and while the William Haggas-trained Dynamic looks unlikely to join that more select list, she did give her value a considerable boost this week when taking a 10-furlong listed contest in France on Tuesday.

All of her previous eight starts had been over a mile, this success was her fourth win, and it was her first piece of blacktype.

She is a 160,000gns graduate of Book 2 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale, she was bred by W and R Barnett Ltd, has a half-sister who was Grade 3-placed over 12 furlongs at Keeneland, and comes from a notable family.

That sibling is Cay Dancer (by Danehill Dancer), her dam is White Cay (by Dalakhani), and that mare is a half-sister to Group 1 Coronation Stakes heroine Balisada (by Kris).

Her grandam, Balnaha (by Lomond), was a full-sister to Group 2-winning miler Inchmurrin, and that talented filly, in turn, went on to become the dam of Inchinor (by Ahonoora) and the ancestor of many blacktype horses, including Grade 1 E P Taylor Stakes heroine Miss Keller (by Montjeu), Group 1 St Leger scorer Harbour Law (by Lawman), and this year's dual Group 1 star Poet's Word (by Poet's Voice).

Group 3 scorer Inchinor was only 13 when he died, but those he left behind included Group 1 winners Cape Of Good Hope, Latice, Notnowcato, Silca's Sister, and Summoner, and he has also recorded considerable success as a broodmare sire.

Now that she's a stakes winner from this influential family, Dynamic has become an eye-catching future broodmare prospect.

NEW ONE FOR DARK ANGEL

Yeomanstown Stud stallion Dark Angel (by Acclamation) has been having another excellent season and he got another new stakes winner when Godolphin's First Contact landed a one-mile listed contest at La Teste De Buch, in France, on Saturday.

A three-year-old gelding trained by Charlie Appleby, the grey was bred by the partnerhip of Peter McCutcheon and Andrew Rosen, he made €300,000 in Goffs as a foal, and he has won four of his eight starts.

His dam, Vanishing Grey (by Verglas), won over five furlongs, she is a half-sister to Group 1 sprint star Kingsgate Native (by Mujadail), and she is out of a half-sister to Group 1 1000 Guineas heroine Las Meninas (by Glenstal).
