AT Navan on Sunday, Measureofmydreams was a somewhat lucky winner of the Grade 2 Ten Up Novice Chase over three miles, when his better-fancied stablemate Black Hercules came down at the last, but that is no reason to suggest that the eight-year-old won’t succeed again at that level, or even go on to do well in Grade 1 company.

The gelding, another talented son of Burgage Stud’s classic star Shantou (by Alleged), was bred by Richard Keane, he is a €65,000 graduate of the Goffs Punchestown NH Sale, and he carries the famous Gigginstown House Stud colours.

He won a point-to-point in 2013, took one of his three bumpers, and was a blacktype-placed dual winner over hurdles before making his debut over the larger obstacles last month, taking a two and a half mile Punchestown chase by two and a quarter lengths.

Measureofmydreams is out of the successful point-to-pointer Le Bavellen (by Le Bavard) and that makes him a half-brother to the dual hurdles and triple chase scorer Randwick Roar (by Lord Americo), to the triple chase and four-times point-to-point star Glabejet (by Old Vic), and to Lord Who (by Mister Lord) whose five wins over fences feature the Grade 2 Woodlands Park 100 Club Naas Novice Chase.

That horse was runner-up to Satco Express when he contested the Grade 3 Ten Up Novice Chase, he was also placed in blacktype events at Leopardstown and Limerick, won twice over hurdles, and seven times in point-to-points, thereby making him both the most high-profile member of the family and one of its most prolific.

Two of his half-sisters also deserve a mention as they have progeny who have been in the frame in the past couple of months.

Glebe Beauty (by Good Thyne) won a point-to-point at the age of five, her son Sutton Place (by Mahler) won a Fairyhouse bumper last month, and her daughter Allez Encore (by Turtle Island) was runner-up in a two-mile handicap hurdle at Ludlow in December.

That bumper and dual hurdles scorer is trained by Kim Bailey and she just missed out on picking up some blacktype when fourth behind Blue Buttons in a listed mares’ event at Wetherby on her previous outing.

Massini

The other sister is Sarah Massini (by Dr Massini) and her first foal is the bumper and hurdles scorer Mr Boss Man (by Beneficial), who won a 14-furlong flat race at Wolverhampton in late December, followed up over two miles at the same venue a week later, and was runner-up in a handicap there recently.

There is a point-to-point scorer among Le Bavellen’s four siblings but if you look at the next dam you find that she, the unplaced Jeannette (by Whistler), had seven winners from a dozen foals, several of whom won multiple times.

Aztec Star (by Aztec) led the way with a win on the flat, three over hurdles and six over fences, closely followed by six on the flat for Tudor Whistle (by Tudor Music) and the same overall total for the dual-purpose filly Pearly (by Gulf Pearl).

That is all minor stuff, but Jeannette had a half-sister of higher note as Shandon Belle (by Hook Money) was the Irish 1000 Guineas heroine of 1962.
