TALENTED sprinter Moviesta joined the Eddie Lynam stable in the spring and notched up a first success from his new base when beating Toscanini and Gordon Lord Byron at the Curragh on Saturday.

The Group 3 Gerrardstown House Stud Supporting Breast Cancer Research Renaissance Stakes, over six furlongs, is the fifth win of his career and his first one since beating Swiss Spirit in the Group 2 King George Stakes, over five furlongs, at Goodwood two years ago.

The former Bryan Smart trainee was bred by John D. Gunther, and he is a son of the classic-placed Grade 1 scorer, and Jonabell Farm stallion, Hard Spun (by Danzig).

A $55,000 Keeneland September Yearling Sale graduate, he is out of the mile winner Miss Brickyard (by A.P. Indy) and so is a half-brother to the stakes-placed filly Liatris (by Warrior’s Reward) and to the 11-times scorer Goodtimehadbyall (by Quiet American), a seven-year-old and recent winner whose earnings are close to $500,000.

Their dam is a half-sister to the Grade 1 Del Mar Debutante Stakes heroine Miss Houdini (by Belong to Me), dam of the millionaire and dual Grade 2 scorer Papa Clem (by Smart Strike).

Effective from seven to nine furlongs, that Grade 1-placed bay is at stud in California and has got four stakes winners, so far, from his first three crops.

There will be no stud career for Moviesta as he is a gelding.

TALENTED GRANDAM

His grandam, Magical Maiden (by Lord Avie), was even more talented than any of her descendants as she won the Grade 1 Hollywood Starlet Stakes, the Grade 1 Las Virgenes Stakes, Grade 2 and Grade 3 handicaps, and a pair of listed contests, and her placed efforts included the runner-up spot in the Grade 1 Santa Anita Oaks.

Her half-brother Magical Mile (by J O Tobin) won the Grade 2 Hollywood Juvenile Championship Stakes before going to stud in Brazil, and her dam’s classic-placed half-brother Avie’s Copy (by Lord Avie) won the Grade 2 Jersey Derby.

There is another member of the family who deserves a mention too and she is Magical Maiden’s half-sister Magical Flash (by Miswaki).

Although successful just once on the track, she has compiled an outstanding record at stud as she is the dam of six individual stakes winners, plus three others who have been blacktype placed.

The best of them is the mile Grade 3 scorer Take The Ribbon (by Chester House), now doing her part at stud as her second foal is the lightly-raced four-year-old Bookrunner (by Tiznow) who was third in the Group 3 Prix Messidor at Maisons-Laffitte last month.
