GOFFS’ decision to revive its partnership with the Futter family’s Yorton Farm was vindicated by every single horse offered at Thursday’s Yorton Sale finding a buyer, and then some. That included 32 lots who entered the ring and even a withdrawn lot, which was subsequently sold privately.

French influence is at the heart of the sale, which is the only sale dedicated to National Hunt two-year-olds, an element that was introduced at this year’s store sales. Furthermore, the two highest-priced offerings this week were French-bred sons of Doctor Dino, while the highest-priced filly was out of an own-sister to the French-bred Teahupoo.

Paul Cowley’s Vanquish Bloodstock secured the top lot, Doctor Green, an own-brother to Doctor du Mesnil, who bolted up on debut for Willie Mullins in April. It represented a profitable pinhook for Yorton Farm Stud, who sourced the bay for €65,000 at the Arqana Autumn Sale 10 months ago. Cowley will be hoping for further profit, as his £105,000 purchase is intended for resale.

The Futter’s French haul also included Fauchil, a €52,000 pinhook who resold to Dai Walters for £95,000. From the family of Kamsin, the bay gelding is a half-brother to dual listed winner and Grade 3 performer Imperial Mag.

Quality fillies

Nathaniel’s popularity amongst the jumps division continues to grow, his progeny realising up to €200,000 and €180,000 at the 2025 store sales, but the dam of his sole offering at Yorton may have been just as important for purchaser Mags O’Toole.

Sold for €65,000, the May-born filly is out of a half-sister to Teahupoo, whose five Grade 1 wins came in the colours of Brian Acheson’s Robcour, a client of O’Toole’s.

A Walk In The Park filly was another highlight on the afternoon, bringing £60,000 from Lews House Stables. Out of an own-sister to Bravemansgame, she had been bought back as a foal for £38,000 at the Goffs UK British NH Breeders Showcase.

“Lews House Stables got off the mark when giving £30,000 for the Golden Horn half-sister to Redemption Day, a Grade 1 flagbearer for the Goffs Yorton Sale.

Peter Molony’s Rathmore Stud was among the Irish pinhookers on site and came away with a gelding by Wonderful Moon for £58,000. He hails from the first crop of the Haras de la Tuilerie resident, a four-time group scorer by Sea The Moon.

At least six of the two-year-olds offered are on their way to France, having sold to Chauvigny Global Equine, Hugo Merienne, Nicholas Bertran de Balanda, Nathan Vergne and Noel George.

The 33 lots sold generated an average price of £27,425 and median of £20,000. Both represent decreases on the 2023 figures, but the clearance rate of 100% suggested that Yorton Farm were content with the prices realised.

Goffs UK Managing Director Tim Kent commented: “This sale has become an established outlet for National Hunt two-year-olds and it’s wonderful to see it back on the sale calendar. David and the Yorton team have done a wonderful job once again in putting this sale together, the horses have received praise from everyone here today and the stud looks fabulous, and a 100% clearance rate speaks volumes to the quality on offer here today.”
