TATTERSALLS Ireland Derby Sale graduates won 12 Grade 1s during the 2025/2026 season - the highest number for any store sale in that period - and has attracted another high-class catalogue this year in an effort to repeat the feat in the coming years.
Siblings to Brighterdaysahead, Eachtotheirown, Koktail Divin, Old Park Star and Talk The Talk are among 420 lots catalogued to go under the hammer on June 24th and 25th, followed by a further 216 lots at Part II on June 26th.
They include a total of 10 siblings to Grade 1 winners, along with another 15 siblings of Grade 1-placed horses. Of the catalogue, 23% are siblings to blacktype horses, 13 are out of Grade 1 mares and a total of 70 are out of blacktype mares.
A full-brother to last year’s €285,000 top lot, a Walk In The Park gelding out of three-time listed winner Posh Trish, also features.
Ballyreddin and Bushertown’s offering was the highest-price store of 2025 and headlined a record-breaking renewal in which 38 horses sold for six figures.
Turnover jumped 25% year on year, while the average price of 53,261 represented an increase of 11%, with the median rising by 5% to €43,000.
Monbeg maintained their leading in the buyer ranks, accumulating 27 horses totalling €1,407,000.
Harold Kirk and Willie Mullins spent €1,230,000 on nine, with Aiden and Olly Murphy in third with a spend of € 862,000.
As he does on the track, Walk In The Park topped the tables in the ring, with 22 lots sold for a total of €1,788,000.
Crystal Ocean wasn’t far behind with an aggregate of €1,750,000, followed by Poet’s Word at €1,551,000.
All three are well-represented again this year, alongside the likes of Affinisea, Camelot, Diamond Boy, Getaway, Golden Horn, Harzand, Jukebox Jury, Maxios, Nathaniel and Yeats.
French sires, unsurprisingly, were responsible for a number of the six-figure sales and this year’s catalogue features the progeny of French sires such as Choeur Du Nord, Doctor Dino, Goliath Du Berlais, Kapgarde, Masked Marvel, Nirvana Du Berlais, No Risk At All and Saint Des Saints.
Repaid in spades
The list of consignors is equally impressive and it’s worth nothing that the seven graduates who scored top-flight wins during the 2025/2026 season were each consigned by different vendors. Additionally, all seven were bought by different buyers.

Their prices ranged from €40,000 for now three-time Grade 1 winner Grey Dawning to €310,000 for the brilliant Brighterdaysahead. Those operating at a smaller budget can be inspired by Blackhall Stables’ €12,000 purchase Backmersackme, who won a Grade 3 at the Dublin Racing Festival.
Other bargain buys to achieve blacktype success last season include Answer To Kayf (€35,000), Coming Up Easy (€30,000), Jacob’s Ladder (€27,000), Johnnywho (€25,000), O’Toole (€19,000) and Wendigo (€35,000).
Point-to-point handlers have also reaped rewards with their Derby Sale recruits, most notably Monster Truck, who was bought by Monbeg Stables for €90,000 and resold for a whopping £530,000 at the Tattersalls Cheltenham Festival Sale.
That was the highest price ever achieved by the venue, while £435,000 is the highest price ever commanded by a mare there - Monbeg Stables graduate Mifa d’Airy boasts that title and was sourced at the Derby Sale for €70,000.
The same outfit resold €32,000 buy Palinca for £400,000 - the same resale value as Highflyer and Jet Bloodstock’s €67,000 purchase Monzon Sport. Terence O’Brien also achieved a major coup when reselling €20,000 store Uncle Pad for £310,000.

Both buyers and vendors have the chance of a significant pay day at the 2027 Leopardstown Christmas Festival, as all horses catalogued and offered at the Derby Sale are eligible for the Tattersalls Ireland MSL Mercedes-Benz Sales Bumper. The vendor of the winning horse will drive away in a brand-new Mercedes-Benz.
