EARLIER this week, Tattersalls released a quality catalogue for Book 2 of the October Yearling Sale, featuring siblings to Group 1 winners among the 806 yearlings.

The numbers are almost on par to 12 months ago, when the sale achieved record highs in turnover and the median price, while the average price was the second highest in the sale’s history.

The 900,000gns top lot, bred by Sue Ann Foley and bought by Godolphin, was subsequently named Oh Sweet Adare and while she failed to justify favouritism on debut last week, the sale hasn’t been short of success stories, led by the top-class Ombudsman and Romantic Warrior.

Siblings to 486 stakes horses feature in this year’s catalogue, which goes under the hammer from October 12th to 14th.

The 13 yearlings by Sea The Stars include full-brothers to the multiple Group 1-placed The Lion In Winter and German Oaks heroine Miss Yoda.

Other highlights include a St Mark’s Basilica half-brother to 2000 Guineas victor Poetic Flare, a full-brother to Nassau Stakes winner Lady Bowthorpe and the Pinatubo half-sister to the Group 1-winning sprinter Kind Of Blue.

A Lope De Vega half-brother to Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf winner Victoria Road and a full-brother to Group 1 scorer Loving Dream are among the 247 yearlings out of blacktype mares.

Book 2 graduate Mehmas has the highest number of yearlings catalogued at 45, followed by Havana Grey, New Bay and Too Darn Hot with 27 each.

Other leading sires represented include Blue Point (24), Camelot (15), Dark Angel (18), Frankel (1), Kingman (9), Lope De Vega (26), Night Of Thunder (7), No Nay Never (19), Sea The Stars (13), Siyouni (4), Starspangledbanner (24), Starman (10), Study Of Man (16), Wootton Bassett (9) and Zarak (16).

Proven Group 1 sires are also well represented in the catalogue for Book 3, which takes place on October 15th and 16th, immediately followed by Book 4 on the 16th. In contrast to Book 2, both the Book 3 and Book 4 catalogues represent a notable drop in numbers.

The number of lots listed for Book 3 fall by 10% from 562 to 507 – the lowest number since 2016. Similarly, the number of lots catalogued in Book 4 are the lowest since 2017, with 61 yearlings representing a 25% drop from last year.

All yearlings catalogued in Books 3 and 4 are eligible for the £200,000 Tattersalls October Auction Stakes and the £200,000 Tattersalls Somerville Auction Stakes.
