TATTERSALLS Cheltenham have unveiled 14 initial entries for the December Sale, which takes place after racing on the first day of the Cheltenham December meeting on December 12th.
Entries will be accepted from point-to-points in Ireland and the UK this weekend, with the catalogue currently headlined by Mags Mullins’ smart debut winner Young Rebel. The four-year-old gelding by Crystal Ocean flew home to win a bumper at Fairyhouse last weekend, with the well-backed Grangeclare Park, an 18-length winner of his point-to-point, three and a half lengths behind him in third.
After the win, Mullins told the press: “He’s a big galloping horse. There were some well-priced horses in the race and you’d be saying ‘what are you doing here?’ I’m delighted.
“We won this race a couple of years ago with a nice horse (Downtown Getaway in 2017). We love him at home and Crystal Ocean is a good sire.”
Maiden winners
Michael Murphy’s Redbridge Stables has entered a pair of four-year-olds that delivered on debut. Make Me Smile was the only newcomer to finish in his maiden at Tinahely, where the half-brother to Grade 2 winner Deafening Silence, bolted up by 14 lengths.
His stablemate Quest For Answers led from the second fence at Borris House and was never headed after, going on to score by 20 lengths with ease. The Kieran Roche-trained Norristown Lady made a perfect start on the same card, the daughter of Affinisea leading close home to win by half a length, with another five lengths back to the favourite in third.
Eamonn Doyle’s sole entry at this early stage is Maxios Des Champs, who produced a fine round of jumping on debut to win a four-year-old mares maiden at Boulta.
Majestic Horizon, a son of Wings Of Eagles, is another smart debut winner entered. The Cormac Doyle-trained four-year-old scored at Rathcannon last month and the well-supported runner-up subsequently sold for £75,000 to Highflyer Bloodstock and Middleham Park.
After the early entries were received, Tattersalls Cheltenham Sale Manager Shirley Anderson-Jolag commented: “Two of the three Grade 1 chases run in Ireland this season have been won by Tattersalls Cheltenham graduates; it is a great reflection of the quality of horse that can be purchased in the Tattersalls Cheltenham sale ring.
“After the record-breaking Tattersalls Cheltenham November Sale, we are looking forward to closing out 2025 with a vibrant sale on December 12th.”
