WILLIE Mullins continued his success with online sales when Sony Bill topped the Tattersalls Online June Sale at 64,000gns. The graded hurdler was one of four offered by Closutton Stables, with all four selling for a total of 96,800gns.

Sony Bill’s buyer was listed as Lodgedown Stables, as was listed-winning hurdler Zillow at 24,000gns. Faye Bramley trains at Lodge Down Stables, where the star resident is Grade 3-winning chaser Glengouly, who was bought from Mullins via Tattersalls Online for 16,000gns.

Glengouly, who won a competitive chase at Uttoxeter last time out, was offered by Bramley on Thursday but went unsold at 29,000gns.

Hurdles may lie ahead of highly-rated stayer Anniversary, after Ralph Beckett’s offering brought 56,000gns from The Brushmakers, best known as the owners of Balthazar King.

The Sea The Moon gelding beat Aidan O’Brien’s Scandinavia, subsequently a dual Group 1 winner, on debut and while winless since, as run well in defeat and was offered with an official rating of 89.

The Michael Bell-trained six-year-old Greek Order, fourth in last year’s Royal Hunt Cup, held a similar rating and the Kingman gelding sold to Harry McAlpine Bloodstock for 47,000gns.

Quality broodmares

Newtown Stud consigned three broodmares as part of a dispersal by Opera Ballo’s breeders and all three found buyers, the highlight being the Galileo mare Cruise Control at 54,000gns.

Signed for by MBL, the daughter of 1000 Guineas fourth Manderley could work out to be something of a bargain, as she was offered in foal to Henri Matisse and alongside a colt foal by Palace Pier. Additionally, she has a two-year-old colt by Too Darn Hot to run for her.

Mohammed Hamad Khalifa Al Attiyah bought Queensferry from the same draft, giving 29,000gns for the half-sister to two stakes winners, in foal to Space Blues.

Newtown Stud’s final offering, the winning Gleneagles mare Whatabird, brought 17,000gns from Kendall Equine. In foal to Blackbeard and joined by her Erevann filly foal, the bay is a half-sister to two group/graded performers, one of them Grade 1 placed, and both dams of stakes horses.

Newtown Stud’s Cathy Grassick commented: “This part of the dispersal for Écurie de Cachene was handled brilliantly by Katherine Sheridan and her team. They offered great support and promotion for the draft, and we had great interest both from abroad and with actual farm inspections.

“It is great to see the online format grow from strength to strength and I would happily recommend Tattersalls Online to other vendors. I would like to also thank Écurie de Cachene for allowing us to present this part of the dispersal.”

A total of 80 offerings attracted over 340 bidders from 22 countries, which saw 55 lots sell for an average price of 11,209gns and median price of 5,500gns.

Fifteen of those offered were breeze-up horses and 14 sold for an average of 9,800gns and commanded a median price of 6,500gns.

These are the latest figures following the private sale of Hyde Park Stud’s Ardad colt for 30,000gns - the highest price commanded by the breeze-up horses.

Tylicki Bloodstock signed for John Bourke’s homebred, who is a half-brother to Grade 3 performer Iriseach, himself sold at last year’s sale.

Unsold lots remain available for purchase and offers can be made through the Make An Offer facility on the Tattersalls Online website. Enquiries are also welcome by telephone or via email to the Tattersalls Online team.
