GOFFS UK offers the first National Hunt foals of the year at the British NH Breeders Showcase on Friday, October 31st, with selling getting underway at noon.

Ten broodmares in foal to the likes of Golden Horn, Stradivarius and Walk In The Park complete the 75-lot catalogue.

This marks the third edition of the select sale, which produced a top lot of £90,000 in 2023 and £70,000 12 months later.

Last year’s average price of £19,365 and median of £14,500 marked just marginal drops year on year, but the market’s generally selective trade for National Hunt foals saw the clearance rate fall to 61%.

Numbers drop

Goffs or breeders have reacted with a smaller catalogue – down from 90 lots – with no drop in quality, if the sires are anything to go by. Golden Horn has nine foals catalogued alongside others by Blue Bresil, Crystal Ocean, Goliath Du Berlais, Nathaniel, No Risk At All, Order Of St George, Poet’s Word, Walk In The Park and Yeats.

The sale begins with a Jack Hobbs half-sister to dual Grade 3 winner Midnight River (Lot 1). The Overbury Stud sire is also responsible for a full-brother to Grade 2 hurdler Intense Approach (Lot 28) and a colt out of a half-sister to Honeysuckle (Lot 57).

No Risk At All’s sole offering in the catalogue is a grandson of Grade 1-winning chaser Utopie Des Bordes, while the only Nathaniel foal is a half-sister to two blacktype horses, out of a dual listed winner (Lot 50).

Batsford Stud will offer a Golden Horn colt (Lot 47) out of the twice Grade 2-placed Milan mare Nina The Terrier, who will herself be offered in foal to Ocovango as Lot 68.

Multiple Grade 2 winner

Little Lodge Farm’s draft features a Crystal Ocean colt out of a Flemensfirth half-sister to My Drogo, as well as a Walk In The Park daughter of multiple Grade 2 winner Chomba Womba, in foal to Golden Horn (Lot 66).

Alne Park Stud is another with an attractive consignment, including a Blue Bresil half-sister to Nube Negra, a three-time Grade 2 winner and placed at Grade 1 level on multiple occasions (Lot 40).

The well-related foal will be offered alongside Reenie Turpin (Lot 73), an unraced half-sister to Constitution Hill, in foal to Walk In The Park.
