ANDREW Kinirons’ promising hurdler C Pas Possible will join Mickey Bowen after topping Tuesday’s Goffs UK October HIT & Yearling Sale at £50,000.
Bowen combined with Dan Astbury and Marcus Collie for the five-year-old Night Wish gelding, who was last seen finishing half a length behind Emerald Enigma in a Navan maiden hurdle. The winner went on to finish third in a listed contest last weekend, having won three of her four prior starts.
Kinirons’ only other offering, Lips Freedom, was knocked down to Kevin Jardine for £32,000. The German-bred Free Eagle gelding had won two listed races on the flat in Merano before selling for €43,000 and went on to record back-to-back wins for new connections earlier this year.
Farabove The Limit was offered off the back of a hat-trick of wins, the latter two coming over a mile and a half at Newcastle. Phillip Makin’s charge, a former Gordon Elliott inmate, had risen to a rating of 71 and will now bid to maintain his upward curve for Syd Hosie, who signed alongside David Brennan at £43,000.
Olly Murphy topped last year’s sale with subsequent listed winner Lord, which bodes well for Hamilton Racing, who gave £20,000 for Murphy’s four-year-old Downtown Nashville, who placed on three of his four starts under rules.
As per last year, Bond Thoroughbreds signed for the highest-priced yearling of the sale, a £24,000 Pinatubo filly bred by the operation and consigned by Yapham Manor Stud. David O’Meara bought two yearlings, a Harry Angel filly and daughter of Calyx, for £18,000 and £10,000 respectively.
Tim Easterby and Michael and Chloe Dods were other buyers in the yearling section, while horses in training were knocked down to Kerry Lee and Donald McCain, among others.
Following the sale’s conclusion, Goffs UK Managing Director Tim Kent commented: “The Doncaster October Sale exists to provide an early autumn outlet for yearlings and horses-in-training, and it continues to fulfil that role. In previous years, this sale has attracted numerous dispersals that help fuel a healthy turnover, and despite a smaller offering, we are happy with the results achieved.
“As we always say, we are nothing without the horses, and we bemoan the lack of horses in today’s sale as, when we are given the chance, we always deliver premium prices for the very best stock. Therefore, we will continue to work with vendors to offer a viable alternative to the market leader, whilst we look forward to returning to Doncaster in early December for the British NH Breeders Showcase.”
