THE well-related three-year-old filly Cristalino topped the Tattersalls Online August Sale, which saw a record number of bidders register for the 146-lot affair. The O’Callaghan family’s Tally-Ho Stud stretched to 80,000gns for the own-sister to multiple group winner Poker Face and Grade 3 runner-up Star Devine.
A 200,000gns yearling, the placed daughter of Fastnet Rock was offered by Amo Racing, whose Head Of Operations Amy Drummond commented: “The filly retained value to us with her pedigree but she wasn’t quite what we hoped for on the track so we’re delighted that she’s gone to Tally-Ho, who also stand the stallions Persian Force and King Of Steel for us.”
On the process of selling via Tattersalls Online, Drummond added: “It was a long time until the next live sale and the online sales are such a handy outlet.
“They’re very easy to use and we’ve been lucky selling on the platform in the past. We had a few viewings for the filly in the yard and the whole process was so simple; she could continue her daily routine here without interruption.”
Highly-rated four-year-old Magico will remain with Marco Botti after being bought back for 84,000gns. The Andrew Balding-trained Halla Bil Zain was narrowly denied on handicap debut on Sunday, and the juvenile’s bad luck continued on Thursday when going unsold at 49,000gns.
Stablemate Chartwell Jock fared better, selling to Simon Smode for 43,000gns. Previously owned by Mick and Janice Mariscotti, the Churchill colt got off the mark in January and was offered with an official rating of 80.
Denis Coakley will take charge of Balding’s Bath maiden winner Star Of Dubai, for whom he gave 35,000gns. Rated 75, the Sea The Stars filly hails from the family of Deep Impact.
Can lightning strike twice?
Clara Stud will be hoping to continue their success with Tattersalls Online after purchasing Fred Darling Stakes fourth Enola Holmes for 31,000gns.
Back in December, the Co Kilkenny breeders gave 30,000gns for the similarly-rated Tropical Island and the four-year-old gained an all-important listed win in the Corrib Fillies Stakes at the Galway Festival.
Jack Jones sold Enola Holmes on Thursday and in doing so, achieved a positive result himself, having bought the daughter of Invincible Spirit for 1,600gns at last year’s Tattersalls Online August Sale.
Then once-raced, she went on to win a Windsor maiden and achieve a rating of 93, though she had since dropped to 83.
Ringfort Stud, who have a history of success with inexpensive broodmare buys, were among the buyers this week, spending 10,500gns on Bonne Femme from Jerry Horan’s Ballynure Park Stud.
The unraced daughter of New Approach is an own-sister to a Group 2 performer and a half-sister to Melbourne Cup hero Twilight Payment.
Gigginstown House Stud ended the sale as leading buyer for the 90,000gns accrued by six lots sold, from six offered. Fred Winter Hurdle fourth Harsh led the way at 30,000gns, having been bought by Dan Astbury and Micky Bowen. The Gordon Elliott-trained five-year-old won twice over hurdles and placed twice over fences.
Elliott himself consigned three, with all three selling for a total of 45,500gns. Stuart Crawford’s sole offering, debut second Largy Meadow, was virtually knocked down to Mike Smith for 29,000gns.
Peter Flood was out of luck with Wexford bumper winner Governors Rock, who was retained for 45,000gns.
At the time of writing, 83 of the 135 lots found a buyer, generating an average price of 9,499gns and median price of 5,500gns.
Trade was boosted by a record number of 382 bidders registered for the sale from over 20 countries including France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, Zambia and from across the Middle East.
The next Tattersalls Online sale will take place on September 16th to 17th, with entries closing on Friday, September 5th.
