SOME 21 wildcard entries have been added to next week’s Tattersalls Autumn Horses In Training Sale, including 11 from leading Irish yards.
Starting on Monday, the four-day sale has attracted 1,600 entries and will be attended by buyers from all over the world. Last year the top price paid was 950,000gns but there were 227 horses sold for 5,000gns or less.
On Timeform ratings, the most talented entry is The Lost King, a four-year-old gelding trained by Andrew Balding for King Power Racing. One of this week’s wildcard entries, The Lost King (by Kingman) won two valuable one-mile handicaps at York this spring before finishing a close second in a Group 3 race at Haydock. His two latest runs, both at Newmarket, have seen further progress - finishing second to Talk Of New York and second to stable companion Humidity in stakes races.
Last Sunday’s surprise ParisLongchamp Group 2 winner Rembrand To Go is another late entry. A four-year-old colt by Shamalgan, he is trained by Miroslav Rulec and won the 11-furlong Group 2 Prix du Conseil de Paris over 11 furlongs last weekend. He had previously won a 12-furlong handicap on Arc day at the same track.
Coolmore is responsible for eight of the 11 Irish-trained wildcards. They are headed by Port Of Spain, a three-year-old colt by St Mark’s Basilica. He was Group 3-placed last season and while he has not won from five starts this season he has been highly tried and lost out by only a neck in handicap company at Naas in August off a mark of 101.
Two other interesting Coolmore entries are Confucius, a two-year-old No Nay Never colt rated 100, and the three-year-old colt Cape Cod, not seen since winning a hot handicap at Leopardstown in the spring.
Coolmore’s 49-strong entry also includes Tennessee Stud, winner of a Group 1 race at two years and successful in a Group 2 race at ParisLongchamp last year, Joseph O’Brien’s recent Listowel winner Count Bezukhov, and Johnny Murtagh’s Latin America, a close third in the Leopardstown October Handicap last Sunday.
Emmet Mullins and Paul Byrne have entered Winday, the three-year-old Galiway gelding who finished third in a Group 2 race over 15 furlongs at ParisLongchamp on Arc weekend.
David Marnane’s Letmeentertainyou, winner of a Listowel two-year-old maiden last month, is another late entry. Owned by Amy and Olivia Marnane, the colt has only raced five times and has an official rating of 88.
It would be no surprise if this year’s Group 3 Solario Stakes winner Alfred Wallace went close to topping the entire sale. Offered by Ed Walker’s Kingsdown Stables, the beautifully-bred Dubawi colt is out of the Falmouth Stakes winner Snow Lantern and is officially rated 104.
Another two-year-old to note is Tyrrhenian Thunder, a winner on debut and second in last Monday’s Listed Silver Tankard Stakes at Pontefract for trainer Adrian Keatley. A 165,000gns October Book 2 yearling before fetching €300,000 at the Tattersalls Ireland Breeze Up Sale, the Night Of Thunder colt has a Timeform rating of 98p.
Gostam, last year’s German champion two-year-old, is yet another wildcard entry. Rated 111, the three-year-old Saxon Warrior colt was an impressive winner of the Group 2 Bavarian Classic on his first start this season before finishing less than four lengths behind Constitution River in the Prix du Jockey Club at Chantilly.
Godolphin has approximatley 50 entries, including several high class racehorses who raced for the late Sheikh Mohammed Obaid, such as Boiling Point, Liberty Lane, Poet Master and Ice Max.
Juddmonte have left in 15 of their original 18 entries, and Shadwell has not withdrawn any of their 12 entries.
