DESPITE concerns over falling numbers of National Hunt foals being bred, Goffs have attracted a larger offering for next week’s Goffs December NH Sale, which runs from December 8th to 10th inclusive.
The catalogue consists of 814 lots, marking an 8% increase from last year, when a Walk In The Park colt foal topped trade at €160,000. At €155,000, Marie’s Rock came close to claiming the top spot, and there’s a strong chance that a mare will top next week’s renewal. An exciting draft from Willie Mullins’ Closutton Stables features Grade 1 winner Brandy Love, Grade 1 third Lady Vega Allen and dual Grade 2 winner Allegorie De Vassy.
Deuce Again is another sure to attract plenty of attention, after her daughter Golden Ace (Golden Horn) gained her second Grade 1 success in the Fighting Fifth Hurdle last Saturday. Stephen Kemble Bloodstock consigns the Dubawi mare on behalf of Meon Valley Stud, carrying a full sibling to the four-time graded winner.
A Walk In The Park colt foal from The Beeches Stud has also gained an important update, with his three-year-old sister Highland Crystal (Crystal Ocean) impressing in an academy hurdle before winning a listed fillies’ juvenile hurdle in commanding fashion at Newbury.
Family in fine form
Oscars Brother was a popular winner of the Grade 2 Florida Pearl Novice Chase earlier this month, providing brothers Connor King and Daniel King with the biggest wins of their careers. The Fenton family’s Hillview Stud was one of many cheering the Malinas gelding home, as they bred the now dual blacktype winner, and offer his Vadamos half-sister next week as Lot 315.
While blacktype updates boost pedigree appeal, some foals are almost guaranteed to be popular if they’re by an elite sire. Authorized, Crystal Ocean and Walk In The Park supplied the four six-figure foals at the Tattersalls Ireland November NH Sale, and are each represented at Goffs, with 18, 43 and 38 foals catalogued by each respective stallion.
Blue Bresil, Diamond Boy, Crystal Ocean, Doctor Dino, Galiway, Golden Horn, Goliath Du Berlais, Harzand, Jukebox Jury, Kapgarde, Karaktar, Maxios, Nathaniel, Nirvana Du Berlais, No Risk At All, Poet’s Word and Yeats are other leading sires with progeny catalogued.
The broodmares catalogued feature coverings by Blue Bresil, Jukebox Jury, Golden Horn, Harzand, Nirvana Du Berlais, No Risk At All, Order Of St George, Poet’s Word and Walk In The Park.
