GOFFS UK hosts the first store sale of the year next week and, while they are in the unenviable position of presenting the first test of the market, the Doncaster venue is fortunate in that it comes off the back of a fine run for graduates of the Spring Store Sale.

The one-day sale takes place on Monday, May 18th, just over a month after graduates completed a Grade 1 double at Aintree. Neil King’s £32,000 buy Storming George was first to strike in the Top Novices’ Hurdle and, 24 hours later, Ryan Mahon’s £50,000 purchase Bossman Jack ran out a commanding winner of the Turners Mersey Novices’ Hurdle.

Joseph O’Brien’s Grade 1-winning novice Talk The Talk was sourced by Highflyer Bloodstock at the sale for £70,000 - the highest price paid for any of the sale’s graded winners so far in 2026.

Monbeg Stables are among the most successful bargain hunters, with their buys Klub De Reve (£16,000) and White Noise (£25,000) each landing a Grade 2.

Twelve graduates made winning debuts in point-to-points in 2026 and the sale’s recent record for producing impressive pinhooking results will be another draw for point-to-point handlers.

Among the pinhooks promoted by Goffs UK in the run-up to next week’s sale were four horses who resold for £300,000 or more, having cost between £24,000 and £42,000.

Seven two-year-olds complete a catalogue of 211 lots next week, featuring leading sires, such as Affinisea, Buck’s Boum, Crystal Ocean, Doctor Dino, Golden Horn (10), Great Pretender, Harzand, Jack Hobbs (7), Jeu St Eloi, Jukebox Jury, Kapgarde, Maxios, Nathaniel (11), Nirvana Du Berlais, No Risk At All, Order Of St George, Poet’s Word (7), Sea The Moon and Walk In The Park.

Stores purchased can be entered for the £100,000 Goffs Hundred Grand Bumper at Newbury

Money well spent

Selling will get underway at 10am and, following a day’s break, many buyers will switch to consigning for the Spring HIT/PTP Sale.

The second sale will also begin at 10am, with point-to-pointers offered on Wednesday, May 20th, followed by horses in training on Thursday, May 21st.

The Spring HIT/PTP Sale has also enjoyed a successful few months, with six graduates gaining high-profile wins so far this year.

Jimmy Fyffe bought Supremely West at last year’s sale for £24,000 and, sent to Dan Skelton, the Westerner eight-year-old went on to bag the Pertemps Final at the Cheltenham Festival.

Colin Bright paid even less - £10,000 - for Ooh Betty and the Westerner mare has rewarded connections with six wins, including a Grade 2 success at Ascot. Dream Shadow is another who has worked out well, with Ger Hannon’s £100,000 purchase beating White Noise in a listed mares’ novices’ hurdle.

This year’s Scottish Champion Hurdle winner Dedicated Hero, Peter Marsh Chase victor Imperial Saint and Grade 3 winner Western Diego each cost £40,000 at previous renewals.

Supplementary entries were added to the catalogue late this week, with further wildcards being accepted from this weekend’s point-to-points.

The full catalogue and further wildcard entries will be available to view at www.goffs.com
