LISTED-winning chaser La Renommee topped Friday’s Goffs British NH Breeders Showcase, where selective trade produced a clearance rate of 56%.
The Mariga family’s Coolmara Stables provided the winning bid of £70,000 for the Grade 2-placed Doctor Dino mare, who was offered by trainers Dr Richard Newland and Jamie Insole.
Newland and Insole also sold Grade 1 third Karalee, another French-bred mare in foal to Logician, to AGB Agency EURL for £32,000. Out of luck so far as a broodmare, the daughter of Martaline is a half-sister to dual Grade 2 winner Stolen Silver.
A daughter of Newsells Park Stud resident Nathaniel topped foal trade, bringing £60,000 from agent Jerry McGrath. A half-sister to two blacktype horses, the April-born bay is out of a listed-winning half-sister to Rule The World.
She was offered by Goldford Stud, as was a Walk In The Park colt foal bought by Belleville for £52,000. Other Irish pinhookers active on the day included Emily Bleahen, Rathmore Stud, Lakefield Farm, Liss House, Kieran Cotter and Rathbarry Stud.
Some positives
Despite a concerning clearance rate, the sale experienced an 11% increased in average price to £21,400, while the median price grew by 10% to £16,000. Turnover fell by 19%.
Following the sale on Friday afternoon, Goffs UK Managing Director Tim Kent commented: “Despite increases in the average and median for the foals on last year’s sale and achieving £70,000 for the mare La Renommee, trade for the category remains selective.
“The Goffs team have been very proactive in attracting purchasers and we delivered a healthy turnout of potential buyers but as shown today, that does not guarantee blockbuster results for all.
“As evidenced across the market, those who impressed stood out and sold very well, but those who did not meet the market’s strict requirements found proceedings difficult.
“It’s too early to draw any firm conclusions, and we will watch with interest over the coming weeks before working with vendors to paint an accurate picture about the events of today and how best to address the challenges going forward.”
