A FRANKEL half-brother to German Derby winners Windstoss and Weltstar (Lot 80) is among 227 lots catalogued for the BBA Yearling Sale on Friday, September 4th.

The sale has a terrific record in the German Derby, supplying four of the last five winners, including the 2026 victor Dardanos, who cost just €10,000. His half-brother by Torquator Tasso features as Lot 148 this year, with other well-related colts including a full-brother to Group 1 scorer Assistant (Lot 178) and a Calyx colt out of a full-sister to Sea The Moon (Lot 124). Fillies catalogued include a full-sister to German Oaks heroine Muskoka (Lot 67), a Torquator Tasso half-sister to dual Group 1 winner Sammarco (Lot 72) and a Sea The Stars filly out of German Oaks heroine Diamanta (Lot 58).

The Siyouni filly out of German Guineas winner Novemba (Lot 161) is a half-sister to last year’s top lot, a daughter of Sea The Stars knocked down to Godolphin for €750,000.

Four yearlings by Sea The Stars feature in this year’s catalogue, alongside the progeny of leading sires such as Australia, Bated Breath, Blue Point, Camelot, Churchill, Cracksman, Frankel, Galiway, Ghaiyyath, Gleneagles, Nathaniel, Sea The Moon, Sea The Stars, Showcasing, Sioux Nation, Siyouni, Soldier Hollow, St Mark’s Basilica, Study Of Man, Teofilo, Too Darn Hot, Torquator Tasso, Wootton Bassett and Zarak. While they may be the highlights, there is always plenty of value to be found at Baden-Baden, which is often a happy hunting ground for those buying for resale.

Though that may not have been the intention for Ahmad Al Shaikh when he spent €30,000 on Sayedaty Sadaty, the owner will have received considerably more from Australian Bloodstock after finishing fifth to City Of Troy at Epsom.

The son of Anodin went on to win the Bendigo Cup in October, while another graduate flying the flag closer to home is Lazy Griff, who was bought by Jeremy Brummitt for €75,000 from Gestüt Westerberg.

Unsurprisingly, given the traditionally stamina-laden pedigrees on offer, numerous graduates have gone on to triumph over obstacles, including at the highest level. Gaelic Warrior is the current poster boy in that respect, having been bought from Gestüt Fährhof for €9,000.
