IMPRESSIVE four-year-old winner Catchem Black is among 20 early entries for the Tattersalls Cheltenham February Sale next Friday, February 20th (1pm), with further entries to come from this weekend’s point-to-points in Ireland and the UK.

Catchem Black continued Gary Murphy’s success with Affinisea – sire of his previous graduate Affordale Fury – when bolting up by 16 lengths on debut at Comea last weekend. The exciting prospect comes from the family of Black Jack Ketchem and Fota Island.

The future also looks bright for Colin Bowe’s five-year-old Harzand mare Galatrona, who built on her debut second to make all at Ballinaboola. The seven-length winner is out of a Presenting half-sister to Kalashnikov, while her second dam is a full-sister to Kicking King.

Bowe sold Envoi Allen at a previous renewal of the February Sale, while Jango Baie is a more recent Grade 1-winning graduate. Jacob’s Ladder is the most recent blacktype winner to fly the flag for this specific sale, with Gordon Elliott’s £110,000 purchase from Ian Buchanan landing a listed handicap chase at the Dublin Racing Festival, having won a Grade 3 novice hurdle 12 months prior.

Stuart Crawford will be hoping his terrific run extends to the sales ring, as he brings three debut winners to Cheltenham next week. All five-year-olds, they include Largy Silver, a homebred son of Sholokhov.

The Maxios mare Lady Vienna was another to make a perfect start recently, beating more experienced rivals in a Tallow maiden for Turlough O’Connor.

Ted Walsh’s charge Ellis Reading made it second time lucky at Punchestown last weekend, when running out a six-length winner of the five-year-old geldings maiden

Daniel O’Connell Jnr’s sole entry is Bansha Blue, who was running a promising race on debut in December until unseating at the final fence. The five-year-old daughter of Blue Bresil made amends in fine style this month, striding 17 lengths clear at Comea.

The promising placed horses catalogued include a pair of four-year-olds from Cormac Doyle’s Monbeg Stables. Jukebox Jury gelding Freetobe, a €50,000 store, finished second on debut at Ballinaboola, while Soldier Of Fortune gelding Magical Major filled the same position on debut at Tallow.
