TATTERSALLS have clipped the number of Book 1 yearlings to 469 for the 2026 edition on October 6th to 8th, a drop of almost 13% from last year, when the sale recorded the second-highest average and median prices in its history.

The number of lots catalogued is the second lowest since the sale began but remains above the 449 that went through the ring in 2024, when Amo and Godolphin clashed to smash records across the board.

The slightly condensed catalogue is certainly not lacking in its trademark quality, featuring siblings to the likes of Camille Pissarro, Christmas Day, Estrange, Mission Central, Venetian Sun and Ylang Ylang – all of whom are Book 1 graduates themselves.

Other Group 1 winners with siblings catalogued include Anmaat, Barnavara, Battaash, Blue Bolt, Charyn, Consent, Johannes Vermeer, Look De Vega, Maranoa Charlie, Mill Stream, Minzaal, Precise and Romantic Warrior.

The first yearling out of multiple Group 1 winner Alcohol Free, who sold for 5,400,000gns at the venue’s December Sale in 2022, is one of 21 lots by Frankel. The Dubawi quintet include a colt out of dual Group 1 winner Anapurna, while Blue Point’s 24 yearlings include a colt out of Skitter Scatter.

The late Wootton Bassett has the largest number of lots on offer at 35, followed by Sea The Stars (31), Lope De Vega (29), Night Of Thunder (27), Blue Point (24), No Nay Never (23), Frankel (21), Kingman, Mehmas and Too Darn Hot (17 each), and Havana Grey and New Bay (16 each). Newsells Park Stud has the largest draft at 27 yearlings, which includes a rare offering by Japan’s brilliant Equinox.

The filly is out of Waldlied, a Group 2-winning sister to Waldgeist, whose four Group 1 wins included victory in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe.

Baroda Stud are hot on their heels with 26 yearlings, six of which are out of Group 1 winners, while a Wootton Bassett brother to Christmas Day is among 25 catalogued from The Castlebridge Consignment, who sold the Derby hero for 450,000gns in 2024.

All lots are eligible for the Tattersalls October Book 1 Bonus scheme, through which graduates can win a bonus of £25,000 in over 500 qualifying races across Britain and Ireland.
