ARQANA may be focussed on high calibre breeze-up horses at the moment, with the Breeze Up Sale taking place today (Saturday), but attention focuses to National Hunt horses next week for the Grand Steeple Sale on Saturday, May 16th.
Listed-winning four-year-old hurdler Isaac Of York features in a select catalogue of 15 to be offered after racing at Auteuil. Mathieu Pitart’s Ivanhowe gelding was last seen finishing second in the Grade 2 Prix Amadou, beaten three-parts of a length by the more experienced Delmegan, who was completing a hat-trick of graded wins.
Good Girl De Faust is another highlight, having won the Grade 3 Prix de Chambly for Mickaël Seror in September, with the form since boosted by the runner-up recording two Grade 3 wins.
By Goliath Du Berlais and a half-sister to Group 2-winning stayer The Good Man, Good Girl De Faust has since placed in another Grade 3 hurdle and made a successful chase debut in March.
The Donatien Sourdeau de Beauregard-trained four-year-old Here Be Dragons appeals on pedigree as much as racecourse performance, as a Doctor Dino brother to Brighterdaysahead, Mighty Potter, Caldwell Potter, French Dynamite and Indiana Jones.
Walter Connors’ homebred made his debut at Dieppe at the end of April, finishing second and separating more experienced rivals.
Azimuts is another well-bred four-year-old who claimed runner-up honours first time out, having been beaten three parts of a length in a mile-and-a-half maiden at Compiegne. Amy Murphy’s Persian King gelding is sure to recoup the 4,000gns paid for him in October.
Telecaster’s first crops have made a fine impression and it’s been reflected in the ring, with his first runners selling for up to €470,000, €320,000 and €300,000, with the most expensive bought by Willie Mullins.
It bodes well for Gabriel Leenders’ four-year-old gelding Stecaster, who made a winning debut at Fontainebleau in March and followed up with a fine second last month.
Further along in his new career, Goliath Du Berlais is another hugely exciting young sire, and is represented by two foals in the Grand Steeple catalogue, including a colt out of a listed-winning Martaline mare.
