EPSOM and Irish Derby runner-up Ambiente Friendly is among 803 horses catalogued for the Tattersalls July Sale, which will take place from July 7th to 9th.

This year is the first time since 2022 that the catalogue has fallen below 900 lots, and marks a 14% drop in entries, 12 months on from the July Sale returning the second highest average in the sale’s history and matching the previous record median.

Middle Eastern buyers are traditionally strong at this particular sale, and the conflict in the region may have dented some owners and trainers’ confidence in the market for horses in training at the moment.

The Castlebridge Consignment certainly have the ammunition this year, with their 139 lots including John and Thady Gosden’s listed winner Chancellor, who was beaten a neck in the Group 3 Winter Derby two starts ago.

He will be offered alongside Joseph O’Brien’s multiple stakes-placed Andab, Stephen Thorne’s 100-rated miler Jagged Edge and Ger Lyons’ 101-rated three-year-old Howd’yadoit.

Drafts from leading owner breeders Godolphin, Juddmonte and Shadwell are always popular and again feature a number of well-bred fillies and in-foal broodmares alongside smart racing prospects.
