BALLINEA Star will continue her career in the US after US-Based Irishman David Fennelly of Mountmellick Farm purchased Robson de Aguiar’s Anglesey Stakes winner for $600,000 at the Keeneland Championship Sale.
The select sale of 14 lots was held at Castleton Lyons, days before Ballinea Star lines up in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf, in which Tyler Gaffalione will partner the current 200/1 shot for a partnership including Mountmellick Farm and Hunter Valley Farm.
Wednesday’s price marks a substantial profit over the €26,000 Fagner Santos paid for the Space Blues filly at the Goffs Orby Book 2, while she also picked up valuable prize money last time out when third in the Goffs Million.
Karl Burke’s Prix de l’Abbaye heroine Miss Yechance was one of the headline offerings on Wednesday but was retained by connections for $3,075,000. Top lot honours went to a lifetime breeding right in Nyquist, for which Don Alberto Corporation paid $1,250,000.
On the Darley sire, Fernando Diaz-Valdes of Don Alberto commented: “Nyquist right now is the top stallion with Gun Runner, Into Mischief and Curlin. Nyquist is a hot commodity; everybody wants to breed to him.
“We need to send our top mares to top stallions, and Carlos (Heller of Don Alberto) wants to have the top stallion. That is why we wanted this and I think it was the right price.”
