NOT content with standing first season sire sensation Starman and record-breaker Mehmas, Tally-Ho Stud have added Wootton Bassett’s Group 1 winner Maranoa Charlie to their roster for the 2026 season.

Bond Thoroughbreds purchased Christopher Head’s colt following his third Group 3 success and will remain as part of the ownership as the Prix de la Foret victor enters his new career. A €220,000 yearling, the three-year-old was narrowly denied by Woodshauna, himself a grandson of Wootton Bassett, in the Prix Jean Prat, and finished a close third in the Group 1 City Of York Stakes before gaining a deserved top-flight success.

Perhaps part of the appeal for Tally-Ho Stud is that Maranoa Charlie may work well with daughters of Kodiac, as his dam is a half-sister to Kodiac’s top-class two-year-old Tiggy Wiggy.

Upon announcing their latest recruit, Tally-Ho Stud’s Roger O’Callaghan commented: “We are delighted to welcome such a talented horse as Maranoa Charlie to Tally-Ho.

“With his two-year-old form and Group 1 record at three, he will be an excellent complement to our roster, especially being by Wootton Bassett, whose early sons to stud supplied this year’s Group 1 winners Woodshauna and Gezora, last weekend’s Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf heroine. We look forward to supporting him strongly with our broodmare band.”

A fee for Maranoa Charlie will be announced at a later date.
