THE Southern Region of the Irish Thoroughbred Breeders’ Association presented their annual awards earlier this month in the spectacular surroundings of the Coolmore Legacy Museum.
The awards recognised the achievements of a number of outstanding horses bred locally and the dedication of the breeders responsible for their success on both the tlat and over jumps.
Among the flat award winners were William Kennedy, breeder of Breeders’ Cup Turf winner Ethical Diamond, and Con Marnane, breeder of Group 1-winning sprinter Powerful Glory. Mark and Stephanie Hanly, breeders of Royal Ascot Group 2 winner Garden Of Eden, were also honoured.
National Hunt honours were awarded to Deirdre Connolly (Affordale Fury). Gerard Coleman (Soldier In Milan), David and Grace Fenton (Oscars Brother), Kevin and Noel Heaney (Fleur In The Park) and Maurice and John Barry (Eachtotheirown).
Presentation
A highlight of the evening was the presentation of the Next Generation Breeder Award to Jack Fogarty, breeder of Myretown and Dalston Lad. This award recognises emerging talent within the industry and acknowledges Jack’s growing reputation as a breeder of promising young stock.
ITBA Southern Region chairman Gerry Aherne, who was joined by Mouse Morris to present the awards, said: “These awards recognise the dedication, hard work and commitment of breeders throughout the Southern Region, whose contribution is so vital to the continued strength of the Irish thoroughbred industry.”
Mr Aherne also expressed his gratitude to the Magnier family for hosting the event at the Coolmore Legacy Museum.
