RAHINSTOWN Estate, a 720-acre country estate in the heart of Meath, has been brought to the market by Savills Ireland. For sale by private treaty, it has a guide price of €14.5 million.
Formerly known as Rahinston and home to the Fowler family, the property is located 41km from Dublin city centre and 46km from Dublin Airport. The sales agent says it represents one of the most significant residential and agricultural estates to come to the Irish market in recent years.
At the heart of the estate stands Rahinstown House, an impressive Italianate mansion dating from the 19th century on the site of the original Georgian residence. The house extends over three storeys above a basement and retains a wealth of original architectural features, including elegant reception rooms, period plasterwork, marble fireplaces and a grand cantilevered staircase.
The estate also includes two additional residential properties, a traditional stable courtyard with 24 loose boxes, extensive equestrian infrastructure, traditional farm buildings and a modern stable complex. The land comprises approximately 480 acres of productive arable and pasture land, 181 acres of woodland and a further 59 acres of scrub and amenity land. Steeped in history, Rahinstown was originally developed by the Bomford family in the early 18th century before passing to the Fowler family, who commissioned the present mansion in the 1870s following the destruction of the original house by fire.
The estate became renowned as one of the great sporting estates of Co Meath and famously welcomed Empress Sissi of Austria during her hunting visits to Ireland in 1879 and 1880.
James Butler of Savills Ireland: “Opportunities to acquire a property of this scale, heritage and quality are exceptionally rare. It offers an outstanding opportunity for private ownership, diversification, sporting interests or a significant agricultural enterprise.”
The property is situated close to Summerhill, with easy access to Trim, Kilcock and the M4 motorway.
