AN interesting situation arose for one vendor at the November Sale.

En route to Goffs he was involved in an accident where thankfully there was no damage to anything other than the vehicles involved but another nasty surprise was to follow.

It turned out that he was not actually entitled to pull a horsebox behind his Land Rover as (unknown to him) he was not in possession of the necessary BE driving licence.

Understandably he was keen that his predicament should be made known to others who may be in a similar situation.

According to the Road Safety Authority website: “As a general rule, a category B licence does not entitle the holder to tow a horsebox or a livestock trailer because the combined maximum mass would exceed 3,500kg.”

That all sounds pretty technical for people like me who have no idea about vehicle and trailer weights. That’s before I add in a horse or two and, worse still, my own weight which is a not inconsiderable addition to the total, and Christmas is still to make its mark.
