THE store horse sales finally get underway on Monday when the three-day Goffs UK Summer Sale (formerly the Spring Sale) kicks off at Doncaster.

As of midweek there was a total of 557 horses catalogued for the sale, with just over 50 of those withdrawn. It promises to be a very informative auction on the strength of demand for untried National Hunt stock.

Monday afternoon is an earlier than usual start for this sale and this is to allow 60 additional entries from the Tattersalls Ireland Derby and May Store Sales and Goffs Land Rover Sale to be offered for sale.

These additional stores are mainly UK-domiciled stores from the Irish catalogues as well as a very limited number from Tattersalls Ireland vendors “with major logistical difficulties associated with the proximity of the flat yearling sales.”

The Goffs UK ‘Spring Sale’ stores will be offered all day Tuesday and on Wednesday morning, followed by the horses-in-training and point-to-pointers.

There are also approximately 20 supplementary entries for the ‘normal’ two-day sale, which will be offered for sale on Wednesday. They consist of three stores, and winning and placed ponters, bumper horses and horses in training.

Tim Kent of Goffs UK said: “This year continues to present challenges to us all but it has been a big positive to see our industry come together and collaborate for the greater good.

“It is in that spirit that we are pleased to welcome Stores from the Tattersalls Ireland Derby and May Store Sales to Doncaster which will sell alongside our original Spring Sale stores and small number of UK based Land Rover Sale lots.

“Goffs have already demonstrated the strengths of working with others for the best outcome and there is no better advert for this approach than the success of the combined Goffs Arqana Breeze-Up Sale at Doncaster earlier this month. We are confident we can follow that success with our Summer Sale.”

Matt Mitchell of Tattersalls Ireland added: “By working together with Goffs during these challenging times, it has been pleasing to be now in a position to offer a platform for vendors to sell stores that were originally catalogued in the Derby Sale and May Store Sale.”
