“The market is a polarised one at the moment and this week purchasers were exercising extreme caution. It’s still possible to sell a very nice horse with a good pedigree and by the right sire for good money but it was tough going for many breeders. There didn’t seem to be as much English money around as has been the case in the past which is something that could be attributed to the ongoing uncertainty surrounding Brexit and the significant change in the currency differential from this time last year.”

Derek Veitch, Ringfort Stud

“Aspects of the yearling market were challenging and selective and the foal market mirrored that, there was a definite air of caution amongst pinhookers but the demand was there when a good prospect came into the ring.” Joe Foley, Ballyhane Stud

“As the quality on offer improved through the week so too did trade. Earlier in the week trade was challenging and we were pleased with how our foals sold on the last day. There are segments of the market that are weak at the moment and unfortunately those segments of the market are the ones that look to be over supplied.” O’Connor, Ballylinch Stud
