BIDPOINT, the new online facility for buying and selling point-to-pointers, got off to a promising start this week. Every four-year-old entered to race at Tinahely, Lemonfield and The Pigeons this week has been put ‘on the market’ with Bidpoint, with the exception of just a handful of horses owned by J.P. McManus and Gigginstown House Stud.

Backed by Tattersalls and facilitated by ptp.ie, Bidpoint allows handlers to put horses on the market at the entries stage without nominating any price or reserve.

After racing this weekend bidders have until Tuesday at 2pm to lodge a bid via the Tattersalls website although there will be links from the p2p.ie site to assist this process. Once bidding closes the vendor will be contacted and the highest bid put to them. The identity of the bidders is protected. The vendor has approximately two hours to consider the bid.

If no bids are accepted the bidders are informed they were unsuccessful but are not told if their bid was the highest, which protects the vendor.

Richard Pugh, founder of p2p.ie and a director of Tattersalls, said: “The key from here is that vendors allow this time for purchasers to engage and continue to make their entries eligible for Bidpoint while allowing this initiative time to find its feet.”
