LAST Saturday’s listed race win in Meydan by Go Soldier Go was the perfect advertisment for the Dubai Breeze Up Sale, which returns to Meydan Racecourse in just 10 days’ time.

Consigned by Church Farm and Horse Park Stud, Go Soldier Go (by Tapiture) was sold for just over €120,000 at last year’s inaugural sale. Trained by Fawzi Nass, the colt bagged US$100,000 last weekend when scoring on the Super Saturday card and he is likely to turn out next for the $2.5 million UAE Derby.

Another expected runner in the UAE Derby is Mr Raj, a close second in last Saturday’s Meydan race and already Group 3 placed in Meydan this season. The Bolt D’Oro colt cost just over €85,000 when sold in Dubai by Jim McCartan’s Gaybrook Lodge Stud.

There have been 11 winners from last year’s sale, including one of last year’s top lots, Dubai Jemila, who won a novice race at Ayr last summer for trainer Kevin Ryan. This Dubawi filly holds entries in both the 1000 Guineas and Irish 1000 Guineas.

This year’s sale, staged jointly by Goffs and the Dubai Racing Club, features 73 two-year-olds from the leading breeze-up consignors in Ireland and Britain. The horses will breeze on the DRC training track from 7.45am on Monday week, March 20th, and be offered for sale on Tuesday, March 21st from 5pm in the Meydan parade ring.

Sheikh Rashid bin Dalmook Al Maktoum, chairman of Dubai Racing Club, said: “We always believed that the Dubai Breeze-Up Sale offers potential buyers a unique opportunity to purchase young horses sourced from various farms and bloodstock sales worldwide based on studies of their attributes and pedigrees and with varieties that meet various needs and expectations. It offers potential buyers from the region select runners that save them the hassles of travelling and shopping around and offers them select runners at competitive prices in a venue so close to numerous vibrant racing centres.”

Goffs CEO Henry Beeby said: “The Dubai Breeze Up Sale achieved some of the strongest results of any breeze-up sale in 2022. Buoyed by the success of year one, the breeze-up consignors went to the world’s leading yearling sales with this year’s Dubai Breeze Up firmly in their sights. Our selection team, led by Tom Taaffe and Nick Nugent, has worked with them to compile a catalogue of unrivalled quality that will appeal to all Middle Eastern and international buyers attending the Dubai World Cup.”
