DECLAN McGarry’s Carrow Kavanann and Andrea Etter’s Celtic Hero BZ emerged victorious in the young horse classes at Cavan’s indoor international show.

McGarry’s brown mare by Kannan out of the Cavalier Royale mare Cavalier Princess was ably piloted by Kevin Gallagher to the top place in the five-year-old final. Second place went to Lisavoora Chacoa, the Edward Doyle Jnr–owned and ridden bay gelding by Chacoa out of Castleroche Cruise Clover (by Cruising).

Third place went to Stephen Duncan’s Darling Sherlock, ridden by Gabriel Tunney. The chesnut gelding is by Baloubet Du Rouet out of Rockmount Shakira (by Ard VDL Douglas).

Neal Fearon rode Thunder GZ, a gelding by Tyson out of Dutch Cinda Alda Z (by Dutch Capitol) to fourth place for T and D Naughton, while Susan Macken’s Luidam mare took fifth place under Edmond Gibney and Neal Fearon and Paul Murphy’s Tuilleagh Uisce Beatha (by Ustinov) took sixth.

In the Euro Stallions & Robertson Equine-sponsored four-year-old final, Andrea Etter and Luc Henry’s Celtic Hero B Z took first place under Killian Norris. The bay stallion is by Calikot Hero out of Cricket Z (by Caretano Z) and was bred by Etter.

Judging for the four-year-old final were Greg Broderick, Ian Fearon and Eamon Rice and the winner came in for praise from Broderick.

“I’ve been following this horse closely since he was a three-year-old when he impressed me with his loose jumping,” he revealed. “I was very impressed in Mullingar when he made a mistake in the grid – he really woke up and had a brilliant reaction and jumped super after it.

“He jumped very well on Sunday. Generally when they have that great instinct as a young horse it carries through.”

Second place went to Aidan McGrory’s Pacino Amiro, ridden by Kenneth Graham.

“The Pacino horse jumped very, very well and got better in the second round. He’s a horse that could end up jumping in big classes. He’s a typical big scopey horse who, while you might question the front end technique when the fences are low, he was much tidier when the fences went up in the second round. He was very, very good.”

Third place went to Declan McGarry’s Hirado Blue, a brown gelding by Zirocco Blue VDL out of Anicky (by Indorado) and ridden by Kevin Gallagher.

Maurice Cousins’ Moonahaw Dvz Diamond took fourth place under Connor Callahan, while John McLaughlin’s Lincourt Luidam was ridden by Angela Percy to fifth and Gabriel Tunney piloted his own Candy Man into sixth place.
