AUCTIONEER Paddy Jordan reports plenty of interest in Co Kildare property Harristown Demesne. The 750-acre estate remains on the market, contrary to the report in last week’s edition.

Located close to some of Ireland’s best known stud farms in the village of Brannockstown, Harristown was put up for sale six months ago by Hubert and Noella Beaumont. With the River Liffey running through the land, the property has obvious stud farming potential.

The Georgian mansion at Harristown covers 12,000 square feet and there is an additional 6,000 square feet of basement space. This two-storey residence was built in the late 18th century by the La Touches but fully restored in the late 19th century after fire destroyed part of it. The estate has been in the ownership of the Beaumont family for 75 years.

Also included in the property are three single-storey lodges, a two-storey stable block with 12 loose boxes, a stableyard house and two cottages, a substantial two-storey manager’s house, a two-storey grooms’ cottage, a dairy cottage, and an extensive farmyard with a variety of buildings.

Beyond the buildings is Harristown’s 750 acres of fine limestone land comprising 367 acres in arable use, 187 acres in grass and the balance of 196 acres comprising parkland, shelter belts and the River Liffey with double bank fishing including salmon and trout.

There is extensive road frontage on three sides of the estate.

There are many well known stud farms nearby including the Aga Khan’s Gilltown and Sallymount, Khalid Abdullah’s New Abbey Stud, Ardenode Stud, Hollyhill Stud, Newberry Stud and Ragusa Stud.

“Overall this is a magnificent estate in a superb location with a gorgeous residence and top quality land,” Paddy Jordan commented. “Estates like these are an endangered species. There’s nothing left like this with a waterway running through it and located just 40 minutes from Dublin, in the heart of bloodstock country with top-quality land, good shelter and a wonderful residence. It is one of the most appealing properties to come on the market in Kildare for some time.”
